Guys — I think it’s too much stress for the fish. I’m going to take my chances and slowly raise salinity in the following week back to 1.025. The big fish can’t handle the hypo so I hope I have a better chance stabilizing the tank.

Thanks for everyone’s help & support. You guys are great!
My concern is that the crux of the issue isn’t the hypo - I’ve treated hundreds of angelfish with it and have never had any adverse reactions.

I think so too; however, providing them a less stressful environment might give them a better chance of survival? Leaving the rest in the current state will suffer the same demise as the other angels.

I agree with this, I think destroying the ecology of your main tank by going hypo has caused you many more issues than just having ich. It’s now going to take many months to get back to where the aquarium previously was in regards to maturity and stability.

Having a mature microbiome that makes life hard for the ich parasite to live and compete is what you should shoot for IMO.

I’ll use my tank as an example again. I added a group of neon gobies several months ago directly to my display. Several of them had a noticeable ich infection. Over the course of three weeks they slowly fought the infection off. I saw no increase in the ich parasite in any of my other fish during this time. Today I have all 6 neon gobies and none of them show any signs of ich.

A new beginning - I’ve lost pretty much all angels - the tangs survived and doing well. I feel so terrible - bless their soul! I will add these fish again, as juveniles.

Lessons learned for me — I will never do hypo again. I’m raising salinity slowly and wait for the tank to mature again before adding fish (after QT of course).

Thinking back, I suspect the DT got contaminated from the frag tank since I moved some rock structures and the vlamingii over. Figure it’s been clean but I had ich before in the frag tank.

An expensive and stressful mistake by me. Aways QT everything!

Speaking of QT — just got a Flame Angel and yes, she’s in QT, looking pretty. :)

Managed to catch the koi tang and moved it to QT. Woke up this morning and he’s dead.

At this point, I want to pour a gallon of Clorox into the main tank and start over. I’ve lost so many fish so it’s a moot point.

Rebirth: got 3 medium angels in QT: Emperator, Regal, and Blueface. I’m thinking of doing 3 Regal but it’s a gamble.

Has anyone done this with success? Try a pair or odd-number of regal angels?

The blonded-naso tang is finally eating today and its body is slowly recovering. Copper is at 2.6

The FF is still in a bad shape though.

That fox face looks awful. Poor guy.
They change color when stressed. What's worrisome (hence I took it out) was those needle-like marks on its body. He hasn't been eating for almost a week so hope to pull through.

The blue tang is better but can't really tell until 3 weeks from now.

Tank update — I’ve lost all angels (sniff) but managed to save all the tangs, including those big, fat Gem & Naso tangs. The Koi tang still got ich but I’m hopeful that she will make it like to the others. The 2 foxfaces are doing well, almost 100% recovered. All hog fish and parrot fish were not affected this whole time. It’s interesting to note that tangs in general were able to cope with ich - in fact, all of them made a 100% recovery. Angels didn’t work out for me, unfortunately.

I know that I now have ich in the tank and will resort to ich management and not eradication. It’s too much work and I’m out of energy & patience to catch all the fish!

Anyway, since I had leftover rocks, I’ve salted the 175g as an emergency tank or heck, run a FOWLR and slowly restock & raise angels? The 360g has not been sold yet so perhaps use that as well? Will see…

With some new rocks and a few dead fish I could not locate, we now have an algae outbreak! I could wait it out but decided to purchase some copepods from AlgaeBarn to help speed this along. I will seed the tank this week and hope they will go to work in a month.

NO3 is at 25 and PO4 is a little on the high side (1.25) — I might need to dose some LCs to bring this down.
