So your saying @HotRocks is Wade then!!! lol.
These large build sure take a ton of time. Mine has been on the 1 year finish plan for 2 years now with hope of being completed by end of this winter. It has taken over my third car garage. Lol

Oh @HotRocks I’ll have to send you a Ram Head to hang next to that Bowtie!!! Lol

I understand the time issue. I have not been doing much with mine either. I am remodeling the family room it is going in and building an entertainment center on one wall 160 inches long holding a 75 inch TV.
Then it hit me. I got to lay carpet before the tank is up do to being 200 gallon and weighing in at about 200 pounds. Good note is my rock is in a trash can getting cured. Thanks to all the advice with that. The rock now smells much better. almost no smell and is getting more white.
Then we have six foster children age 5-13 four of which had birthdays in the last two weeks. Yes children take up your time but they are worth it.
Good luck with your build. It looks like it will be awesome in the end. Send pictures.....
William

I am pretty fair with drywall. It is like saltwater. go slow and take your time. the smother you spread it the less sanding and mess you will have. Start with a small putty knife and go up. I use a 6 inch to fill the hole let it dry as it will sink in. the last pass is with a 12 in to feather it out.

And when you start sanding.
Cover any opening in the room and Buy a pair of shoes that are just for sanding. Throw away when the project is done and they dont leave the room. Dont skimp on the shop vac.

Will save hours of cleaning the rest of the house later lol.

And it will keep
the wife happy....
Happy Wife, Happy life....
I also put a box fan in the window blowing out to keep a negative airflow in the room. This helps keep dust out of the rest of the house too.

My drywall competency is minor repairs and that’s even questionable! Haha
I've heard that walling you away from aquariums is preferred, not questionable. ;Wideyed;Troll

I'm not one to push product(s), especially expensive ones, but after doing some bead and board, painting, and finish work in a room with my 40 breeder I'm going to 2nd and 3rd the don't skimp on shop vac or a sander.

I have standard box store shop vac and sander which are very loud and not very efficient. I was doing some work, making a mess. My brother in law stopped by who is a wood worker, he sighed, left, and came back in 30 minutes with his shop vac and sander. Festool product, I never heard of.

Boy did that kit work great. Not loud, very efficient, quick, little to no mess. Lesson learned. I'm sure there are other quality products but figured I'd throw my hat into the ring to say don't do what I did. Especially if it is something you will be using in the future.

Also nice thread - had some free time to read this morning :)

Good idea! I get to cut some corners because we are putting up recycled granite on the drywall, so no one will notice it's unfinished behind it. But you're absolutely right, and i do have a nice (old) shop vac. I just bought two more filters for it as I've been neglecting the poor thing!

Lol, I lay asphalt for a living. Smoothing or floating happens flat on the ground. Plus whenever it's at Jason's no matter what it looks good from my house!

Good thing is it all gets covered with recycled granite. If it required finishing to paint I would have made him call 1-800-Drywall! :)
