Think about what you want to keep in your tank, and buy lighting that supports that. You don't need a fancy lighting system if you have a FOWLR, but if you start FOWLR and want to have coral in the future, buy a light that will support the type of corals you want to keep. Daily question entry: most lights can grow coral so dont get caught up on the radions of the world. Instead, focus on the features and simplicity that suits you best. Coordinate the lighting with were you plan to go with the tank and make sure you have proper tank coverage with the lighting. When I started it was halides and T5s. None were dimmable. Color blending or adjusting meant replacing bulbs. Heat was a major issue. Now, LEDs do the job.
