Give them time to adjust to the new lighting and see how your corals respondDAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
Spectrum, colour, brand name, company ethics, quality. Now that I've owned these lights I'm also now sold on shimmer!! Nice shimmer looks awesome on your reefDAILY QUESTION: How do you prioritize features when selecting a new reef light?
Coral response, long term colouration, overall health and visual appeal all play a role in determining light effectiveness.DAILY QUESTION: What’s the best way to measure the effectiveness of your reef lighting setup?
From T5 to early day LEDs. Spectrum, power, efficiency and shimmer. A lot has evolvedDAILY QUESTION: How has reef lighting technology evolved since you first started reefing?
Generally replace the old ones. Take all the old ones down, setup your mounting and mount the new lights, turn them on and have a lit day from your upgradeDAILY QUESTION: How do you integrate new lighting technology with existing aquarium setups?
Some what important, I mean what maintenance is there really other then the odd clean from time to timeDAILY QUESTION: How important is ease of maintenance when selecting a reef light?
Well orphek have been around for a long time now, they primarily focus on lights and put a lot of research into the products they develop. Spectrum is big, but also I've not seen a tank lit by orpheks look bad, that was a big selling point for me!DAILY QUESTION: What are factors that you consider important when choosing a reef light? Why did you choose the light that you are currently using on your reef tank?
It mimics the natural moon and sun cycles. In turn this helps your corals feel they are in a natural environment and hopefully this then helps them grow faster and or spawnDAILY QUESTION: How does the Sun & Moon Synchronization feature of the Natura iCon benefit your reef tank?
This is a tough one, the app is pretty easy to use, like using the lunar cycle and the clouds cycle. I also love the colour the lights produce and I love the shimmer!DAILY QUESTION: What’s your favorite feature of the Orphek Natura iCon Reef LED Light?
Orphek natura iconDAILY QUESTION: What light do you have over your tank right now?
Hopefully colouration and growth, but I'm also curious on spawning coralsDAILY QUESTION: How might natural light synchronization improve the biological rhythms of corals in a reef tank?
Black box LEDs, just not getting the desired, growth, colour out of your corals and also not getting a nice shimmer or as appealing looking tankDAILY QUESTION: What challenges have you faced with previous reef lighting systems?
It’s changed a lot! New lighting generates far less heat than my old MH’s and now we have ramp-ups and built in timers. I do miss the color of a 14k Phoenix bulb though. But with the right light you can get kind of close.DAILY QUESTION: How has reef lighting technology evolved since you first started reefing?
Start at lower level and move them up over the course of a couple weeksDAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
DAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
I don't. I just add them where I want and see how they react. No issues yet doing this.DAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
I place new corals on the sandbed and gradually move them to their intended location. If adding new lights to an existing coral system, I start with the lights very low and gradually ramp up the intensity as days pass.DAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
Moon sync looks pretty sweet and the progressive dimming
