DAILY QUESTION: How do you integrate new lighting technology with existing aquarium setups?
A lot of DIY which is something you see a lot in this hobby. I have seen some very inventive homemade lighting brackets. My favorite are ones that provide a little flexibility on angle.

DAILY QUESTION: How has reef lighting technology evolved since you first started reefing?
Unfortunately I don’t have much insight into this because I’ve only been reefing 2 years. But I have seen the evolution of it in my research. What I have noticed is the older tech provided a lot of consistency and new technologies allow for constant tweaking which is not good for nature. Customizing is good but then things need to be left alone.

DAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
DAILY QUESTION RESPONSE!! When acclimating corals to a new lighting system, I start by dimming the lights to about 50-60% intensity and gradually increase it over several weeks, while closely monitoring the corals for any signs of stress like bleaching or retracted polyps. I also shorten the photoperiod initially and slowly extend it back to normal. If the new lights are much stronger, I'll use shade netting or egg crate to diffuse the light, removing it gradually as the corals adjust. Throughout the process, I ensure proper water flow and nutrient levels to support the corals' transition. This careful, step-by-step approach helps my corals adapt smoothly to the new lighting conditions.

DAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
Depends on the light if it has an acclimation mode I use that if not I manually increase the output by 5% or so every couple days until I hit my goal. I do like to use a par meter to check levels before, during, and after but I also watch the corals to see how they are reacting.

DAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
Start lower on the intensity setting and gradually bump it up every couple of days to a week. If I notice the corals acting agitated I bump it back to the previous setpoint.

DAILY QUESTION: What’s your strategy for acclimating corals to a new lighting system?
First, I find out what lighting and photoperiod they were under before going into my tank. Then I generally start all frags on the sandbed or on a frag rack on the side of the tank that doesn't get blasted with light. I don't do adjust anything on my lights.
