Back in the day it was an either on or off, My plans will include some research into lighting profiles and comparisons between the ones frequently used by other reefers. Hopefully I can achieve a good all around lighting profile. Anybody need some dressing with that word salad.

DAILY QUESTION: How do you balance aesthetics and functionality when it comes to aquarium lighting?
Trial and error. 20k ? 15k? 10k?. You never know everything about coral placement until you either place a coral too high or too low and visually observe the coral bleaching out. On the other hand, some corals love being bathed in high-intensity light near the top of the tank. Again, learn by doing and I forgot about overspending on corals you lost because of where they were put in the tank. Live and learn

DAILY QUESTION: How do you balance the needs of different coral types when setting up your lighting schedule?
I use placement in the tank more than lighting schedule to balance the needs of different corals. I tried placing additional lights on separate timers that focus in one location but that does not look good.

DAILY QUESTION: How do you balance the needs of different coral types when setting up your lighting schedule?
Different layers! I try to have a variety of high, medium, low, and shaded low lights areas in my tank. More light dependent corals go higher or more directly under the lights, low light corals go under and overhang or sandbed more towards the edge of the light rather than direct light.

The lighting needs of the corals is covered with its placement in the tank. Sticking to a lighting schedule will help with stability in the tank.
