what about po4 just out of curiosity... ive noticed my efflo seems way more sensitive to increases in po4 compared to my milis and tenuis and is the first to show any sign if po4 is even slightly increasing.

A couple weeks ago he said his PO4 was about 1.07 ppm. So, getting phosphate down is key. I’ve had similar issues but didn’t have a dramatic increase, with PO4 at about 0.88ppm when I first tested it on 9 Jul. 13 Jul, 0.83; today was 0.70 ppm

It’s been a rollercoaster lately… been putting in some hard work trying to get back in order.

Ghostbuster is right, PO4 was high but I got it back down pretty quick. I pulled it down via huge water changes added GFO and also lightly used lanthanum a few times. It came down to 0.3 quickly and then I’ve slowed down from there. 0.15 is pretty normal for my tank and I’m around 0.2 and declining. Nitrates are also in a much better place around 10ppm.

*knock on wood* it look like the efflo has stabilized and stopped retreating. A lot of acros have started to regain some colors so we’re headed the right way.

I also started really working on DOC reduction. I read Salem’s article and listened to the reef recap, and it got my attention. Then Andre (moonshiners) mentioned Oceamo had added that SAC254 measurement to there MS tests. It’s supposed to be an indication of DOC. I had just sent one in and it came back with a really high value (13.2) and healthy is supposed to be between 2-8.

So I’ve been on a mission to get that down. Added GAC, increased ozone to 15min each hour, and thoroughly went through the tank and sump pulling out fine detritus.

On top of all that… the ICP came back mostly ok, but was showing abnormal levels of tin, nickel was high, aluminum was higher and iron was elevated which is normally low, and antimony was registering high… sounded like metal in the tank. So I went on the hunt… and found an old scraper blade that had slipped in and hid at the bottom of the overflow… so that’s been removed.

Yeesh… I’ll send another ICP first week of August to check for improvements.

awesome that you were able to find a likely source and that things seem to be getting better in the tank!

July Entry @Reefing102 @Troylee @Jasonak @Mschmidt

Nitrates: 60-65
Phos: 0.242
Alk: 8.4-8.6

Been carbon dosing heavily, but nitrates don't seem to want to come down. Going to lower the dose a bit because i am seeing some minor STN in some acros. I think my tank likes being at 60+ nitrates because things are growing and colors looks good.

How do you like GHL? I've been eyeing their products recently for the next time I have money.
