kind of couldn't help but notice that a lot of you guys have Tridents. curious, anyone thinking about getting the new nutrient one?

Ive been looking at one myself actually. I don't have the older trident though

Hydros is coming out with all in one if you want nitrate and phos since you don't have a trident already. I love having the trident only had couple months. I don't test nitrate often enough to purchase a auto tester for it.

Yea if that’s what people are getting for new growth on a frag in all of 3 weeks, I’m gonna be left in the dust :grinning-face-with-sweat:
Especially for being straight out of shipping and browned out.
Mines coloring up great and starting to encrust its plug but that’s just a crazy amount of growth.

I’m in the same boat as you lol. Starting to color up some but see no growth like that or encrusting.

Older Trident is a lifesaver for me. I wanted the trident np for years until I saw what they came up with. The reagent has a shelf life of two months (have to mix it) and it takes longer to test (From reports on here). I already have the Hanna checkers and don’t see the trident np as a replacement because those parameters don’t shift much daily for my tanks. It’s a weekly test imo.

Glad I'm not the only one with browning comps.

Fired mine up yesterday. It was .06 higher than my Hanna phosphorus and 3ppm higher than my Hanna NO3. I plan to sample with Hannah around the same time for a few days just to see how it trends

I love my trident… wouldn’t use the new one if I got it for free lol… not interested in knowing my nutrients 24/7 and the constant buying of reagents… my corals tell me what I need to know in that department….

It’s probably not for everyone, if you are at home all the time and test regularly with a Hanna I’m not sure I would convince myself to buy one. I travel and need to feed or dose to maintain nutrients. I tell my 14yr old to feed but he has a busy sports schedule and has forgotten, or I measure out to little food and nutrients drop. Came home twice in the last 6mo to Dino’s. Now I can breathe a little easier with a DOS hooked up to dose NO3/PO4 if I see things sliding down.

Plus, I have learned a lot through watching trends on my Trident….i expect this will be the same with the NP

I have to hook a new controller up on my system but so many people tell me that the power strips of the apex fail. I don’t want to deal with that kind of mess once I get stuff plugged in and programmed. Either apex or hydros, what do you guys think? GHL I purchased and returned the next day (way too complicated of a setup).

Personally, I’d never buy a new Neptune product again.
Their customer service is atrocious and has only gotten worse over the years.
Only reason I still run apex is that I’m still using all my old modules and everything from 5-10 years ago and thankfully fusion still works for it.

Hydros is where I will be going once they stop supporting their old equipment

To be fair… the newer eb832 don’t seem to have any problems after they upgraded the internal power supplies to meanwell… it was the cheap crap in the first couple years that were failing.. haven’t experienced or heard any issues after that.

Ive got two apexs running and one small hydros setup. If I was starting out new Id go with hydros , it just seems better built to me. That being said there new all in one tester is suppose to be around 1200.00 which is pretty steep compared to a trident. But it does do phos and nit also.
So I guess it depends on what your buying it for.

Edit: Im running both old and new apex.

I have the newer apex. The 2016 one but I never got the new power bar. Still using the old black one

I don’t control a whole lot with it anyway just CO2 for reactor and temperature for the most part.

I mean it worked out great for people like myself who like to tinker with everything lol.. I’ve picked up a few eb832 that had a burnt power supply for $20 and repaired them myself! Basically a refurbished unit and I’m into them for $60 at the most! People sell them for $200 all day long. It takes about 20 min to repair one and $40
