Now what new coral for the front and center of my tank?
IMG_5467.jpeg

Goniopora and torches would be my first choice if they weren't both expensive and sensitive.

Morning!
I think so...
Since you said Gonis and maybe Torches I’m guessing there is medium flow there?
Yeah medium flow, low to medium light (I think)

Maybe I should move my hammer there and then get some more colors? Or some branching ones. Do frogspawn and hammers get along?

i cant think

I say either go for an Indonesian Gold (or even a Dragon Soul) Torch or go for a different coloured frogspawn to mix in with the Hammer.

Now I am a sucker for Acans. I just LOVE them. They don’t add a lot of height however, so idk how much it would stand out without looking closer at your sand bed. I also like Trachy’s and Scoly’s. A Trachy may be a good choice and it adds a bit of height as well. But then again these are ‘grounded’ corals.

Dang, I would love some Acans (Well.. I should probably say Micromusa) and Scolys but my fish would find them as an expensive treat more than anything.

Yeah. It's the tentacles of the high end corals that are just stunning. Maybe I should just save up for one. I do like my frogspawn and it is growing well for me but it is purple and disappears mostly in the blue lights. I would love one that glows but they don't seem as common as hammers or torches.

Mine is pretty but I don't think it's grown much. I do need to try more of the those brain like corals but I think I want them on the sides of my tank and have movement in the middle. I will have a look and it would be nice to break the bank on a coral that will die like a Goni.

I’ve got something better than a Goni something that is MILES better and that’s an Alve ;) My absolute favorites are SpearMint (the ones with purple tentacles), Hologram, and ALL the red and pink kinds lol.

Haha that's true they are easier aren't they?
My experience with a a goniopora was it looking good for like two weeks. Then it got knocked off and fell face first into the sand one night. I put it back but it pretty quickly bailed out after that.

Honestly I think they are a little more difficult but they seem to adapt to your tank quicker than gonis. Ik Reef Dork has the same issue as he can’t keep one for the life of him lol. He has a new one and idk how that one is doing.

It’s been a while since seeing his videos - how old is his naoko?

I never miss a live show and he’s one of the reasons I love this hobby! Him and Ryan from Prestige Reef. Funny enough I can relate to Ryan more than Alex even though I watch Alex a lot more lol.

Sad to say his Naoko died years ago.
That was the naoko that got me to buy my first ever fairy wrasse… My First Cirrhilabrus naokoae.
That’s sad to hear he died.

I saw Ryan in August, and actually saw Alex two years ago.
The pros of knowing one of the smartest reefers in England (He’s the owner of my further away LFS but also worked in the LFS I worked in in 2020/2021) I guess :)

You should’ve seen the other option I had, a true Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis (over here they’re hard to come across as usually their name is given to C. rubeus). Unfortunately the Naoko won due to personality and I will never regret that.
