I have an encrusting/plating orange pavona I got from my LFS and recently added a purple pavona from Tidal Gardens, which is more branching. I'm assuming they're different species. I am currently keeping them apart but was wondering if I can move them near each other at some point.

IIRC in general aggression tends to be relatively low between corals that are closely related. I have a golden pavona that's toppled into a encrusting/plating orange pavona many times, and has never fared ill from it.

That said...

Even if they 'may' not exhibit aggression towards each other, they WILL compete for space, and one WILL eventually try to overgrow or smother the other. Which can be both good and bad, as the growth patterns that emerge from two SPS corals trying to outcompete the other, can be quite astonishing!

So my advice is, best to give them space to grow into. :)

I have 2 pavonas. One is a ORA mint chip(smooth skin), and the other is your typical green hairy pavona. If they come in close proximity to each other, warfare ensues.

The hairy pavona packs a wallop compared to the mint chip. I have to keep them separated.
