I think if it is this it does from my read. I might be wrong. I feel like 800 gph is right for 40g, right?

yes it comes with a drill bit. The 800 is good for the 40g. I bought the 1600 because I thought I would use it on a larger tank.

Thank you! I’m not quite ready to start buying all I need but this helps tremendously, thank you.

I’ll probably put a build thread together soon.

My suggestion is not to use the screen. The screen will clog...when you aren't home. Yes this is a bean animal layout. Best to use the bean animal piping layout for silent draining

Oh it's the part of the wier that has slits. But it looks like that part isn't removable.

If you go with Eshopps eclipse I would go with the medium. I put a small on my 40b, no problem handling flow, just not much room for stand pipe modifications.

My only concern is the lack of water volume due to the tank being rimmed. I’m still considering it.

IMG_0219.jpeg so if you use one of these between the bulkhead and strainer you can rotate it to adjust the water level ….
… you will have to replace that flat strainer with this type however

yeah I think me and @Mr. Mojo Rising had the same kit:
it comes with a decent drill bit, plexiglass guide, and flat profile strainer similar to this:

What does the screen look like?

I am referring to objects like this.

The nice thing about the Modular Marine overflow is that the rear box sits higher than the skimmer box. Therefore there is no way the rear box will overflow onto your floor if all three bean animal drains were clogged.

That is sort of why i’m leaning towards Modular Marine but still trying to figure out.

You cant use the template from Eshopps as designed on a rimmed tank with out it being too low. As of late probably could have turned it side ways. Its not impossible to determine were it goes with out the template. Mine still could have been higher.

Hold the weir up to the inside of the tank, move to what you think is your desired position. outline the weir bulkhead on the outside of the tank with a sharpie. cut it out

As fishface NJ has said modular marine for the win! It’s what I used on my 60 breeder. As they stated the rear overflow box is higher allowing it to never overflow. A design no other to my knowledge incorporates. Modular marine drill template gets the box as high as you can get with a rimmed tank. They make an awesome overflow kit and include everything you need included. Will use them on every build here on out.

I use a Eshopps M on my 40g and my 25g frag. The only difference is I use the Prodigy because I am a snob... You can check out my two builds if you want to see. I run a Reef Octopus 4s and the flow is almost all the way up and it handles it well. On the Eshopps, you can also change the water height level by flipping the weir. On a rimmed tank there are marks on the template I think for rimmed tanks.
One of the differences between the two brands you are looking at is the Eshopps sits flush to the glass on both sides, whereas the other brands, the overflow box sit away from the glass on the inside of your tank. So all sorts of critter’s will call that home. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a fact. The good part of that is you can just pull the box and throw it into some bleach and citric acid to clean it.
You can see in the pics that there is enough clearance for the rim. Also running the water level on the low setting so it doesn’t touch my lighting brackets.
