what’s the real difference besides getting to say they’re from hawaii? (genuinely curious)
Behavior for one.. something about gaining the trust of a wild fish- I like getting them to go from skittish soon as you walk into the room to eating from your fingers. I never owned a biota, but I'm sure there are other behavioral differences/ defects

I honestly think the cat is out of the bag on pricing for Tangs, I don't see Hawaii opening them up dropping the price any time soon. The Biota ones being $165 can be shocking on its face I guess but I would still rather go that route at this point. Even if they open it up I can imagine it will be extremely controlled with low numbers to keep the prices higher.

I don't really see it as a bad thing. A yellow tang is a big fish that needs a big tank, after spending thousands to set up a 6' plus reef tank does it really matter if the fish is $40 or $165? Break that cost down over the 15-25 years that such a fish should live and the difference is trivial, but it may give pause to the people who used to see a cheap pretty fish and impulse buy them to go die in a 20 gallon tank.

i cant think

Hands down has to be a Red Tail Tamarin Wrasse. I will forever be haunted by the day I passed on one of those tamarins and then that week the Hawaiian ban was set.

Three fish for me, in order:

1) Golden Dwarf Moray
2) Potter's Angel
3) Chevron Tang

Due to how they reproduce, I doubt that we'll ever have captive-bred eels, so wild-caught is the only option there... and I do want a golden dwarf someday, it's on top of my list of dream fish.

Potter's is another that's on my dream list, but there are captive-bred available... just stupidly expensive. =) Wild-caught Potter angels would put pricing pressure on CB, and both should stabilize at a lower price.

Chevron tangs are also really neat, but there are other gorgeous tangs out there, so I wouldn't be too put-out if I never get to own one.

Im going to sound like a broken record but I want 7 beautiful yellow tangs.

A little bit since they are available today...

Edit: by the way that is a rather specific number. A lot of thought went into that I guess.

I want native Hawaiians and it was either 7 and 9 so ya kind of specific. :)

I think 7 in a 270 seems like THE number.

I think 7 will be amazing. I have 11 Biota Lyretail Damsels in my 210 and they liven the display so get the larger number. As far as native I'll bow out of that one but understand. Hope your day is well.
