Please elaborate. I'll admit that I really don't know the ins and outs of what's happening.

There are people/groups that are pushing for ultimate ban on keeping tropical animals in captivity. Seems outlandish? one could have said the same about the bans that are currently in place.

After seeing what I saw while working in the industry for 15 years, I would honestly say those groups have a valid case.

For every great reef keeper on this site, there are 5-10 who are so incredibly wasteful and incompetent. There was recently a guy on another board asking for help because he can't keep Queen Angels alive. He said he's tried 50 times and they all died! He was trying to keep them in a small tank at 82F when they are Atlantic species who prefer cooler waters and lots of space to swim.

Reef fish being a little more pricey keeps away some of the impulse buyers which plague FW at least.

Hopefully the thoughtful and competent hobbyist don't lose their tanks because too many people want to keep a cheap YT in their 29g then wonder why it only lives 3 months.

Sure I want a few fish species found in Hawaii, but I absolutely support local using their legal rights to refute reopening a fishery.

I agree with NF, there is a ton of waste in this hobby. A local shop stopped carrying yellow tangs back in the finding nemo days since people were unintentionally killing them so quickly.
