Hello fellow reefers! ♡

4/29/2024
My husband and I are building a tank together. He decided he was ready for a saltwater tank again after we had taken ours down several years ago. We had a tank for several years in the late 90s early 00s. We were both in our early 20s and did not know what we were doing as we didn't have the information highway that we do today.

I have been researching and planning every chance that I get. We are building this tank on a budget as he and i are both disabled at this time. I went through several back surgeries and he just fought and beat cancer the larynx but is still dealing with the aftermath of the treatment. With us being confined to the house quite a bit, we really want something that we can build and enjoy together.

We purchased a used 46 gallon bow front with a stand for $125. This tank was drilled and originally had something that resembled a sump. Unfortunately we did not inherit the plumbing but instead only a 20 gallon tank that was in no condition to be used as a sump.

We have decided to go with a HOB filter at this time so the first task at hand was acquiring a bulkhead to fit the hole that was drilled in the tank as well as removing the overfill box positioned in the top right inside corner of the tank.

I just updated for the last hour and accidentally hit the back button and lost everything. Will have to try again later. I'm over it tonight. =0(

Hubby and i have both tanks set up and they are near the end if their cycle. We had to work on a budget and decided to go with HOB filtration for now. We did invest in some nice skimmers and I plan on adding better lighting to what we already have soon.

Tank #1 Live Rock Tank

We named this tank the "Live Rock Tank" because it contains the old live rock from our previous tank that we took down about 10 years ago. This tank will be mostly a FOWLR tank but im going to attempt some GSP. The light on the rank is the one that came with it when we purchased it used. I am hoping to eventually add at least one good light on the left side of the tank above the rock sculpture that i built.

Is updating this thread easier on a computer? Lol I swear I accidentally added the last two pics and I can't get them to delete. Uggggggg.

OK. I've been trying to update in the original post but I think I'm supposed to update here.

I've got the 46 gallon bow front cycled and have slowly been adding livestock. I have a Diamondback Goby that has been rearranging my whole tank. But he does keep the sand pristine! My rocks have started to brown a bit so I think I am starting the "ugly" stages.
