Can't believe I'm typing this as I have spent the past 15 years trying to get rid of aiptasia! But I have 6 berghia nudibranches coming my way this week and I want to make sure I have enough to feed them. Anyone have some aiptasia you want to sell me? I know it's a difficult thing to scrape off so I guess I'd have to purchase a piece of the rock that it's on? There are people selling it on EBay and Etsy but of course the shipping charges are costly.

This subject is like reef click bait. The way it's phrased I thought you were selling aptasia and asking if we wanted to buy it but either way I was curious enough to read the post and learn that there actually is a market for what is generally considered a frustrating nuisance. Very interesting.
Pretty sure I've eradicated it in my QT but if I see any I'll let you know. But I'm curious, why buy 6 nudis if you aren't sure you have enough aptasia to feed them? Was there a minimum buy, are they just that cool? Not being critical in any way, do your thing, the whole post just got me super curious this morning.
Thanks,
Aaron

I don’t think anyone has aiptasia anymore since the arrival of aip-x , joes juice, et
You may be right, I have both those products and use it on the ones I can easily reach, but there are still those pests that pop up in places I can't reach without tearing the tank apart. Then again, if that's where people have aiptasia I'm sure they don't want to tear their tank apart to give me their aiptasia.

LOL Sorry for the unintentional click bait! :)

I ordered 6 nudi's (have always been curious about them and saw them available so figured, why not?) I didn't order more of them because of their cost and the fact that I'm not sure I can keep them alive, apparently they may get eaten by something in my display tanks. So then I had the brainstorm of putting them in their own little tank so I could observe the fascinating little creatures at work, at least for the first few days. Then though, "hey, what if I could get them to breed in their own tank and then I'd have enough to put in my other display tanks and have my own little supply regenerating? "

Once I started researching what it takes to keep them alive I realized I probably won't have enough aiptasia to keep and breed them, thus, the request for unwanted aiptasia.

I was joking
Both those products cause more harm than good

I've often wondered about that. It's rewarding to see them shrivel up after using the products, but does it really kill them or just p/ss them off and cause them to multiply? Thus, the quest to try something new.

You’re into challenges aren’t you? While Nudi’s are very cool creatures, you will find them to be largely invisible. Once you put them in your tank they disappear, only coming out at night. The only thing they eat is aiptasia, so if you don’t have a good size population, they will starve. Even when you do have an infestation, the nudis do their work in the dead of night. You simply wake up and there are less and less Aiptasia until they are all gone. At that point, you MAY begin to see the nudis as they are desperate for food. Eventually they will just starve.

What I try to do when I get a batch is try to catch them when they come out and get them to a local reefer who has an infestation of his/her own. At least it keeps the little guys alive a bit longer and helps out a fellow reefer.

Yup, constant challenges is what energizes and motivates me. I would die of boredeom without them. I don't expect to see the little buggers much, but right now they are in a 2 gallon tank with one small rock of aiptasia. If I see some of that diminishing or if I see a circle of eggs, I will be so excited and it'll be worth the effort. And of course if they successfully breed and hatch and I get to put some in my display tanks, I'll have a "going away" party and do my proper "Goodbyes" to them, as I know I'll never see them again in the big tanks. I just love watching things hatch and grow. Have raised my own seahorses, clownfish, and sharks. Gotta love it!
