wait.. this is a game changer for vacations… How would I go about programming my pump to also turn off when feeding begins though/is it even possible? I have an IM nuvo pro that I just press the feed button and it stops the pump for 10 mins…
I have a bubble magus skimmer with this function. I know that’s not exactly helpful, but it’s built with an aftermarket sicce pump if that means anything to you

what about a Hawk fish? The one I have eats limpets.

You lucky duck! I have a falco hawkfish, but he has no interest in them. I might try and pry one off and feed it to him.

I did witness mine eat the entirety of a turbo snail before its shell hit the ground. I’d accidentally knocked it off the wall scraping off algae my freshman year. My teacher had always told me he was an herbivore, and it was at that point I knew he was mistaken

Indeed...
I don't turn my pumps off for the pellet feeding. The pellets don't float about. They pretty much drop to the bottom sort of quickly. The fish grab what they can in the water column, but then they go back and hoover up the pellets that hit the bottom. The pistol shrimp and porcelain crabs get some pellets from the bottom as well. Before I go on vacation I can feed heavy and fatten them up, then rely on the auto feeder for a few days. For a week long absence, I have the neighbor kid come by a couple of times.

I have the IM Nuvo 25 gallon lagoon. I use these pellets.

I flipped a bigger one upside down and placed it next to where he was perching. He definitely took interest, but I am unsure if he will eat it. I have a lot of things I do around the campus, so I will check in later to see if I can find it. Hopefully he develops a taste for them….

Nice! Glad I could help. You can set the feeder to go off up to four times a day, for multiple rotations, and adjust the amount that is dropped by the sliding door. Test it in your hand a few times to make sure you are not overdoing it. Mine sits on my lighting arm.

That’s what I’ve found too. My current thoughts are that I transfer the frags into a different tank and get a small species of beaked fish. There is a 120 gallon tank that will be transformed into a FOWLR tank in a couple months, so once the limpets are clear I’d put the beaked fish in the FOWLR tank. From there I could reinstate the coral in the original tank
Look into the Halichoeres genus and specifically the complex of biochoeres.

That complex seems to leave cuc alone compared to other species and should also feed on limpets.

Out of curiosity why are you moving the frags over? Most species of beaked fish like these guys won’t go for coral and instead it’s the snails/crabs they go for (which can be helped - I have a chart of what snails are good with smaller Halichoeres in this; The genus Halichoeres: The Wrasses.).

Thanks you! This is super helpful!
I will be moving the frags over to a separate tank that is focused on frag growth only. I will still leave a lot of the corals in the classroom tank though. The original intention was to get them all to the breeder tank, but I didn’t have a keycard at the time so it didn’t work out that way. Plus the tank is currently very sterile, and I didn’t have the means to decontaminate the frags when I initially bought them anyway
