In September, I received 100 Blue Tilapia fingerlings which were introduced to six different outdoor fresh water tubs; in ground tanks ranging from 150G - 1500G. A 30G glass tank outdoors with an air stone & heater was also set up outdoors; Blue Israeli Tilapia can withstand lower 50 degrees for a short time. Because Blue Tilapia can breed in full strength ocean, I added 1G of partial change water from reef tanks indoors. In addittion to this source of nutrition, I feed flakes to fingerlings. Due to inattention on my part, evaporation continued raising salinity to 40ppt with dead tilapia and green water. Because a sustainable source of phytoplankton is more time critical for me, I will adjust tilapia to salt water at another time. Next time I will use young adult tilapia for salt water conversion.
