Trying to ID something that I'm unable to get a photo of - it's invisible on the camera

I've got something spreading on a few rocks. I've tried to take a picture but it seems my phone just cannot pick the stuff up. It's a light beige, almost the color of rocks, and sort of spongy looking. It's not soft and cannot be blown off the rocks so I'm confident it's not detritus. I've tried using a toothbrush to clean it off, but to no avail.

Anyone have a suggestion of how to get a picture of this so I can get an ID?

Can you change your lights to the white channel only?

Wait until the evening or lights out and light it with a flashlight. Side lighting or silhouetting could be helpful too.

Also make sure the phone camera view axis is perpendicular to the glass if possible, taking a picture diagonal through the glass will usually look pretty distorted.
