I picked up a candy cane frag a while back. It keeps growing aptasia out of the bottom of its skeleton. I've been supergluing over them, and it was starting to look really bad. Today I removed the frag from the small rock it was glued to, tossed the rock in the trash, since it had an aptasia on it. I then cut about the bottom 1/3 of the skeleton off of the candy cane. I'm hoping that this will stop them, since they all seem to be growing out of the bottom of the skeleton. The little guy was mad at me when I pulled him out again. He spit water at me from two of his little mouths. He'll get over it!

Anyone else heard of this before? It's like they were living inside the skeleton? When I brought it home, I dipped it, and a tiny aptasia fell off of it. I scrubbed it with a toothbrush. Trying to do everything right!

I hope you were able to remove the aiptasia but I would be afraid they would hide out until they thought the coast was clear and show back up? GL

If this skeleton trim back doesn't get them, I think I may need to remove this candy cane. I'm watching like a hawk, and I try to get them out as soon as I see one pop up. I haven't seen them anywhere else except for around the base of this one candy cane. It's a small tank, so it's easy to keep an eye on things (I hope).

I might have added a plug of coral epoxy, mixed with superglue to seal them inside the base skeleton tomb. They have been reported to resurrect faster than the Creator did, and I have wondered how they can survive when I have injected them with muriatic acid, lemon juice, etc and the keep coming back?
