Quick update,

I was going to spend time this weekend redoing my rock after pulling the rock to get gorilla crabs out. But of course, I saw another one this week along with a bad snail I will need to pull.
On the good side I got a few frags from aqua SD all still going and some already encrusting. Pics to follow

Probably a whelk if he has that "snout" out front. They tend to bore through stuff.

On the bright side, if you have enough you can saute them up in some butter for some tasty escargo!! :D

she be a whelk ok, and a mean one. Got to one of my sticks.

Going on 4 weeks filled I think. Math and dates aren’t my thing :) (that’s just to start).

Things are good. 2 of my velvet damsel disappeared. Not due to ammonia or disease other wise my clown, angel, hawk, or other damsel would show sings. Just this particular ones. Never found bodies, Possibly due to gorilla crab eating corpse.

The coral I put in 1 week after set up still alive. I lost one or 2, and by lost I mean lost when I was pulling rock out to pull out crabs. 1fell victim to whelk. But overall the coral in a 1 week old tank is doing well, and some stuff on rock is coming alive.

Nice setup. Im looking for a cheap wet/dry now. I guess I missed it but which overflow did you go with?

Ps I was hoping you might get a mantis I could pay shipping on.

hi,

Not a lot of wet dry brands out there any more. Technology has left them behind, but I still think they are a valuable piece of equipment when used correctly. I would not buy a new one. Maybe post a wanting to buy thread. I’m sure someone like me should have one buried in the back of their fish closet they may part with.

marine depot has their own overflow, I like it. I had an old overflow hose, but I think either they or Brs sell one made by eshopps. sorry, no mantis. :)

Sounds like me. I stopped getting rid of stuff a while back. I used to keep stuff for a while, look at it every so often and eventually say, why am I keeping this and throw it out. Then I would end up looking for it when I would need it only to realize I threw it out.

Now I keep it all.

Just over 30 days in,

Figured tanks settled in now. Any ammonia issued would have hit by now, all equipment working fine, everyone alive except 2 damsels. Turns out the velvet damsels are mean. The biggest one picked off the 2 smallest and somehow the last smallest one is managing to hang in there. No other casualties.

I did a 50% water change, added a few coral, 3 more fish, and a jebao wavemaker on and I m done. Except for adding coral no more messing with this one. Back to working on my 180. I will mention I never had good impression of Jebao, but the one I got, right out the box I have to say I am more impressed than my mp40.

Going into month 3,

starting to see some algea and cyano. Need to beef up CuC. No fish loss other than the 3 velvet damsel that the biggest velvet bullied the rest to death. Last round of test frags all coloring up and the plants that came in on the rocks are growing back.

Think I’m good to say it’s established and switch over to normal maintenance now and get some more frags.
