Yes i do believe you misunderstand. For part A one of the two criteria must be met("i" or "ii"). Part B requires the Secretary of Interior to essentially approve it but that is not needed if Part A applied. That is why there is an "or" between Part A and B.

Again i have some concerns with the amendments and would rather it not pass, but do not believe in any way that the way some are representing it is anywhere near accurate. It simply does not match the actual language of the bill(lets not forget Coral is not part of this). I find it is hyperbole to inflame the various hobbyist groups and believe they are using dishonest means to do so which is my problem.

This bill is really about controlling newly introduced wildlife entering the US and I may be in the minority here but I dont think that is a bad thing at all. I would actually support the amendments personally if they would define "more than minimal quantities"
AH, I didnt see the "or" between A and B. I just saw the "or" between "i" and "ii". With that in-mind, it should allow the industry to go on as usual, but still does give some rather strong powers.

However, I would agree with your assessment on this being a hyperbole. I wouldnt want this to negatively affect new species of fish/coral/inverts such as closely related gobies, etc. However, I do always worry about regulatory burdens and standards of proof.

Those who are supporting this should probably show their support by getting out of the hobby.

Would they be happy if Florida banned reef keeping, keeping all fish?

How many of these individuals live in Florida?

I already had one post deleted from. The conversation because someone was offended. I suspect this one will also.

There's many more reefers in the country then just those in Florida, maybe the ones in Florida need to think about how their actions effect the rest of us. I can't fathom why individuals dump fish when they could easily rehome them.

This is all silly. It wont change anything. That's why they are trying to pass it. Trust them. They are from the government and trying to help.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

They are just trying to keep our islands from capsizing.

Although I do agree that there are some people who threaten ecosystems, the good majority of fish keepers truly care about both their hobbies and the protection of living creatures. There are many responsible reefers who do this hobby because they care a great deal about these organisms, and much of pet keeping involves conservation.

Take bala sharks (Balantiocheilos melanopterus) for example. In the wild, these fish are critically endangered, and it is highly unlikely that you’ll be keeping a wild caught specimen. Although they are often kept improperly, it is indeed captive breeding and the fish’s high demand that maintains the species’ high population. This is the case for many species, especially more exotic ones with the potential to be banned. If captive breeding and marketing didn’t keep them so numerous, the doors could open up for illegal catching and, without conservation, the eventual extinction of said species.

when I bred killifish or really anything from west africa, you would sometimes get a strain that was extinct in the wild,,, keeping the fish bred in the hobby was the strains last chance…..So perhaps let’s hope common sense prevails and this is all hyperbole over this…emphasis on hope

Imma get some of my Russian and Chinese computer nerd friends onboard. They’ll be sure to have some tricks up their sleeves. In all seriousness, I PMed Snorkel Bob via Facebook Messenger with a courteous but stern message asking him and his partners in crime to reconsider. Here it is:

This is his site.

(This is his personal FB page)
The irony is that the people going snorkeling are allowed to kill fish with spears or other fishing gear as they please... some even make a sport of it. That is the real sickening part.
