Thinking about a second frag tank...

My 20L frag tank simply grows zoas and palys at a great pace...most everything does really well in it. I'm running out of room in it, especially with some stuff I'm planning to take to the frag swap. I'm sure I will need the same room after for new stuff too. I have a 4 bulb 25 over the tank. Zoas and Palys don't do worth crap in my 220g display with metal halides. What I'm thinking about doing, since lighting is the most costly thing...

If I get another 20L tank and put it right next to my existing one, maybe with bulkheads joining them. Then I would lift the light fixture up and center it over the two tanks to provide light to both. Has anybody here done that? Looking at how the LFS's have their stuff set up, they typically have their lights way above the tanks. My light is currently about 12" from the water surface.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Just get a aquatraders 4 bulb for $60.

I'm wanting to avoid that additional expense...and additional bulbs to replace periodically. I think that if you have two 20g tanks, side by side, one fixture would supply plenty of light to both. Surely the light will do well enough to give 24" of light (tanks side by side).

Yes. I may put one up on blocks, with a couple bulkheads, so it can just gravity drain into the other. Maybe about 4" difference in height. It will also give me a little bit of variance for corals....to move them based on how much light they need/want.
