Got my first tank a little over four months ago -- likley many here have seen my posts and threads.. Most first generation coral died until I 1) got a phosphate reactor 2) Increased flow and light, and then wow, new coral are thriving; ballooning during the day. Like, I purchased a trachy coral; read about where to place it for flow and light in it just blew up like a balloon ( or at least does so during the day). Anyway I need /want a larger tank because 1) s a newb I got excited and I bought too many fish and and some will need to go into a second tank 2) just want another tank or two, one nano and one 65 gal system. I really want the Red Sea G 250 Max for my bedroom but at the LFS it look humongous. Thing is, at LFS it is standing on 1' concrete blocks so it looks much larger maybe because of that. But I need something about 36" long because I have a juvy purple Tang. When I measure in the bedroom with tape it all seems kosher. but that is abstract.
My quandary is, well couple of years ago I got divorced and I had to move into an apartment. I pu the new 42 tank I have now in the main living room of my apartment. I am on a second floor. No problem. But for my medium sized bedroom which has adjoined bathroom where I would install Rodi I am not sure if I that Red Sea G250 would be overwhelming for a medium size bedroom. It looks huge to me at LFS. 36"long tank for bedroom?
I am also thinking about the Nano Peninsula as an addition to the living room so I can have dedicated Nem/fish tank but that is separate from everything else.
Ideally I would move my G200 into the bedroom since it is smaller and put the 250 in the living room but I am not sure how to do that logistically. Cannot move a G200 without breaking it down. But maybe that is my answer, bring a new 250 in a different location in the living room, of course along a wall; and just start empyth the 200 in part into the 250, brek the 200 down and move it to the bedroom. IDK
Is it realistic to have a large 36" in a medium sized bedroom. LOL I spoke to owner of LFS and of course he was saying I should even go with the G300, but that is larger and I am just looking for that 36" length and high quality everything. well, I feel that the latest Red Sea equipment is all high enough quality. but living in San Diego with the market the way it is, it is hard to predict about buying a home since they are like $700,000 so I am not sure exactly how long I will be living in this apartment because it is convenient and cheap compared to a mortgage on a home. I know within 5 to 10 years the baby boomers will be gone and a huge inventory of homes will likely present itself. But the thought of having to move, two or three tanks makes me nervous. The thought of a G250 in my bedroom makes me a little uncertain only because of how large the model at LFS looks . But I am thoroughly satisfied with my G200 Max for what it is -- I feel it is safe and the only issues would be from operator error.
With all that said, is a 65 gal system, 36" long tank outlandish for a medium sized bedroom? I am also considering things like noise, humidity, spacial obtrusion. and the unknown. Anyway my juvy purple Tang will sooner than later need 36" to swim one direction, which should buy be enough time till I do buy a home and can get whatever size tank I decide. 95% of the time the windows in my bedroom are open so I do not know that humidity would be an issue or not. But someone mentioned that.
