Psst, look at this.
IMG_8652.jpeg

Might as well have that guy in the Coris genus if they’re that close together.
Hemi is only half…
Or why don’t we make a Halichoris genus? Throw in every species that is called a Coris Wrasse and solve the argument ;)
Because science!!
Halichoeres and Coris aren’t even that closely related!! I mean even without DNA tests. They don’t even look remotely similar

Wrasse full update! The pictures were just quick snaps so many aren't great.

1. Anampses meleagrides:
Female 2" - Coral tank
Appearance: 10/10
Health: Despite being a very good eater does not put on weight. May need a prazi treatment.
Attitude: Not bothered by anything and just does its own stuff. Very curious.
IMG_4496.jpeg

2. Bodianus anthioides:
Female? 3" - Predator tank
Appearance: 8/10

Attitude: Confident and neither a bully nor bullied. Great open water, top of the tank fish.
IMG_4537.jpeg

Health: A healthy fat torpedo
Attitude: Not really a bully anymore but still king of the fairies.
IMG_4512.jpeg

4. Cirrhilabrus lunatus:

Truly Amazing Fish, very nice to see them in full color in an Aquarium, not pics on line or at LFS, if they ever get these fish. An I like your temperament portion as well. Thank you

I'm probably overthinking this but is it normal for one wrasse to set itself up on a schedule exactly opposite everyone else in the tank? Are voliks known to be nocturnal?

Also seeing him do a lot of yawning - but not any other signs of a parasite. (Maybe he's tired because the other fish are keeping him up during the day? :thinking-face: ..joke)

Most recent addition. He was alone for 30 days in QT; been in the tank about as long.
Honestly, some wrasses just sleep in for longer periods and then go to bed earlier. It may just be that but do you have any other wrasses in the tank?

Well, I’ve decided to ask one of my LFSs to try get a gorgeous fish so, the Jade may be going sooner than you’d expect - you’re clue is he is in a lesser know genus ;)

A Pseudojuloides?
Maybe…

P.s. The species I’ve gone with seems more suitable for an active tank. Also I’m planning to remove a fish or maybe two.

I bought a pintail fairy wrasse at my LFS 2 days ago along with a Timor and a carpenter. The pintail died overnight from yesterday to today. The other two are doing well and eating actively. They’re in my quarantine tank under observation before I start hypo.

For all the wrasse lovers/experts out there, can you comment on common wrasse illnesses and what could have caused such a sudden death? He was absolutely stunning at the store but he was definitely hiding and was always hiding after getting him home. My LFS keeps its quarantine tanks at 1.026 (my tanks are also at 1.026) and I temperature acclimated for 30 minutes.

Any thoughts?

No signs of bullying?
Wrasse are more resistant to most parasites like ich and velvet but are prone to injury and stress. I believe uronema, flukes, and cyanide poisoning, are the most likely to affect wrasse. UNWD and spinal injuries are also a possibility for fairy wrasse.
