You joke but I would get a few of these wrong. Can’t be looking like a fool at the LFS

I’m looking for some recommendations from the wrasse experts.

I currently have a yellow coris and red velvet in a 130g. Tank mates are Copperband Band butterfly, Yellow tang, lawnmower, 2 - Bella sleeper Goby and a pair of Oscellaris clowns. Also, lots of coral mostly LPS.

I would like to add a Radiant and/or a leopard Wrasse. I had a radiant several months back from my LFS that they said was eating and I made the error of taking their word for it and it lasted about 30 days and starved. I tried purchasing and had shipped in every food I possible could with no success, it wanted to eat but would turn up its nose to everything.

So my question is; Other than the obvious of making sure I see it myself eating well not just picking in the LFS. What is the road map for success with Radiant and Leopard?

I have the ability to QT and also observe for extended time before putting into DT making sure they are eating and trying to fatten up.

Thanks

Honestly, the road for success with these wrasses is making sure the specimen has no damage on the mouth (no white should show, this is a sign of mouth damage as the white is the teeth). Another thing is making sure the belly isn’t sunken in as this is a sign of internal parasites.

And finally make sure it eats, if the LFS doesn’t show you the fish eating then leave it. I do not care how reputable the shop is, leave the fish. Chances are they’re trying to make money off of you and hoping you go by their word.

Here’s my 4 year old iridis, I got him as a tiny .5” juvenile and he’s now grown to a 4.75-5” beast of a wrasse. And yes, all of the precautions I’ve said above were used. I had 1 LFS that didn’t show me the fish eating before I got this guy so I ignored it. Then this guy was feeding at another LFS (the one I used to go to before it moved).

Thanks. Great looking! It’s difficult in my area, it’s rare for the LFS to have any Radiants for the obvious reasons.

As a juvenile what foods did you have success with and what is he eating now?

Honestly, foods I’ve had success with as a juvenile are identical to foods I have him on as an adult male.
I feed;
Cockle
Muscle
Mysis
Brine
Algae/veggies
Bloodworms
And more… the food get rotated around every month so sometimes it’s different but the main two stay the same; mysis and brine.

What do you think about this? I'd this a rubeus in disguise?

That is a rubeus! They just haven’t caught up with the times. Reclassified in 2016

I requested some photos or video to post here and get feedback. See if I get a response.

I’ve seen a few earlier about sending the wrong wrasse, but anyone have experience with Dr.Reef and more finicky wrasse types? Leopard, etc?
After getting a DOA from another vendor, while understandable, is not something I want to go through multiple times even though they came through with DOA guarantee, I would rather spend more than more animals suffer.

I got my leopard from Dr. Reef. One out of three survival through shipping. We trialed shipping with sand in bag vs shipping in a black bag. Black bag didn't seem to prevent the fish (that otherwise looked super healthy) from dying in transit, likely from injury.

If you want a leopard from Dr. Reef, call him and request specifically that they send with sand in the bag.

Rhomboid has become very good friends with the pintail over the last week. The pintail kinda follows rhomboid around and they race around together chasing food too.

I wonder if the exquisite has become jealous. He flares up and charges at them to break the rhomboid and pintail up haha.

I'm fighting with myself about a pintail. I may have to use this month's fish budget for one.

Do it!

I had one that passed a couple years ago, and in the time since I honestly kinda forgot how pretty they really are, and I’ve been very happy that I finally decided to get another one. They look like a glowing pink/orange/yellow starburst haha.

Tank stop has them on sale right now for like $90!
