Yes I’ve been eating my family out of the house lol. We’ve all been eating so much. We are making it up tho. It’s being made up In gas bills tho. My mom normally drives a couple hundred miles a week to drop my brother and sister off at school and her work

In addition to the supply chain disruptions, I have noticed many new employees at our local market and they are all pushing around and filling up these pick-up customer carts. The Covid-19 has a lot of people using this service now. Guess what? Looks like we are all paying for the convenience of a few. They have to pay all of these additional salaries somehow. They have also closed another cluster of regular check out lanes and now have two sizeable self-checkout areas and fewer checkers. Sorry for the rant, but just yesterday morning I rolled up with a basket full of groceries and there were NO checkers - only self-checkout. The codger came out in my and I complained. Who wants to run $300 worth of groceries through one of those dinky self-checkouts where you have to scan the item and keep it on the small shelf until you pay. It won't f'in fit! I'm sorry. I was not cut out to be a grocery shopper.

And now they are rationing meat at my local market. They have a sign posted "Limit 2 packages of ground meat)." Last week I didn't see the sign and brought 4 one-pound packs of ground meat to the checkout. They took two of them away from me. This week, I bought two three-pound packs of meat - no problem! So, apparently you can buy 6 pounds of ground meat if it is in two three pound packages, but not 4 pounds in one-pound packages. Grrrrr I guess I woke up grumpy today. LOL!

firing up the smoker today, first time in I think 2 years. Just chicken today but I haven't decided of I want to do it latin style (mojo criollo injected with adobo) or classic KC style (Sweet baby rays) or Tennessee (Blues Hog Tennessee Red).

The bread is done (simple no knead)

Side dishes of red potato salad with a homemade yogurt and dill dressing and collard greens with bacon, vinegar and red pepper flakes.

I just swing by every few days so see what they have marked down and grab it. People think if meat has been on the shelf for two days, they won't buy it, so it gets heavily discounted. But they'll pay $50 for an aged steak. In any case, the meats are fine and with a vacuum sealer you can extend the fridge life or freeze them. Earlier this week. (Tuesdays is a great day to shop because all the weekend meat is marked down) I picked up a 9 pack of chicken thighs for $6, two thin cut london broils for $3.50 each and a large pack of bay scallops for $3. The scallops and a steak were made that night into a beef and scallop stir fry. The chicken was cooked and fridged, three went to making chicken salad.
I think the huge pork sales are no longer. There was a glut right after trade war war with china (they buy most of our pork) and you could pick up shoulders for 65¢ /lb.
