This is going to be a bit of a downer. Please at the end try to find something happy.

My grandfather is fighting a uti that has made him very sick and weak. They went to insert a feeding tube because he was unable to swallow. I just learned that they couldn't insert a feeding tube. My dad and his siblings have decided to bring him home and put him In hospice.
We now start that journey.

Hes 90 about ready to turn 91. In 11 he had a massive ha, stroke and a major car accident at the same time. Passed out behind the wheel and rolled into traffic. His quality of life hasn't been the same since.

He's a God fearing man that took great care of his kids and grandkids. He's slow to talk and a very insightful with loads of wisdom.
His humor was different. He is quick to say it hurt doesn't. It will feel better after it stops hurting
Or you'll know where it is when you find it and it will be the last place you look.

I knew this day was coming, I hoped it would be later rather than sooner.

Sooo sorry to hear of this @sfin52, your grandfather sounds like a wonderful man and to have spent 90 plus years on this earth is a true blessing. I'm certain he feels truly blessed as well to have raised and been in the presence of such wonderful kids and by extension, grandchildren. I do hope that things take a turn for the better and you have a chance to spend a little more time with him. But I also hope that in time, no matter what happens, you and your family find peace. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in the coming months..

I'm pretty sure I had dinos on the cheato in my HOB sump. I was removing it. as it was fairly well confined and easily rinsed off the cheato - either dinos or cyano.

I was hoping the stuff in the DT was diatoms.

But, my NO3 was climbing up to 64ppm last week, so I started carbon dosing (v/v) and that triggered a massive bacterial bloom and my NO3 crashed to zero in a matter of days. Just the bacterial imbalance the dinos needed to get going.

I could see the tell tails on a power head and bubbles forming on 2 rocks I hadn't sterilized. The kenya tree is the kicker, I've seen this before. It closed up sometime Friday and hasn't reopened, and the brown killers are taking it over. The cleaner shrimp died Saturday morning as well.

I siphoned the sand bed clean last night and gave it a stir clearing off the morning dust but by lunchtime it had covered the entire bed. It's thicker to the eye than the pic. The rocks under white were mostly faint green, but now you can clearly see the brown.

It's early this time around. I unplugged the DT light and skimmer. The microscope arrives Monday. No water changes. Phyto culture is started and pods on their way. Pods in the HOB are active, a couple of adults and lots and lots of kids.

And I have my post in the dino thread.
Unfortunately, no pox is fuel and food for dino. No good- blackout the tank for 3-4 days and add 1 ml of peroxide per 10 gals at night and you will see it diminish

Anyone use a reef Breeders photon v2+

thats what I’m thinking about doing. Not sure if I should do the 24” or the 32” for a 36” tank. Not sure if the 32 is worth the extra hundred and sixty.
I can make either of them work financially just gotta move some money around and maybe wash a yacht or plane or too. I just love the sleek look and the coverage they give to them and I can add t5s eventually
Reefbreeder lights are semi local to me, about 2 hours away
Just combing over this first batch of Marco's Premium shelf rock and am somewhat disappointed with it. I don't think I'm going to be able to use it the way I wanted to so I'll have to go back to the drawing board on my scape plans. Just frustrating when it's $10/lb and I was hopeful I'd be able to get atleast one or two usable pieces.
Thats the same thoughts I had about it...still have 55 out of 60 lbs in a box on the patio...definitely does not look like what they advertise to me. Very dense and heavy, and not worth the money I spent on it. Had great ideas about how I was going to use it until I opened the box and pulled it all out. BTW...I have 55lbs of Premium Marco Shelf Rock for sale if anybody is interested ;Hilarious

Edit: @Josh, I have at least one large piece that is 16"x12" roughly, and a few others that are large but not as large...I'll get pics of them in a little bit, you are welcome to them if you pay shipping.

Second Edit: disregardthe reefbreeders comment...they aren't as local as I thought, there is a lfs couple of hours away that swears by them and are the only lights he will use. Assumed RB was local due to a FB post the other day from the owner of the Lfs that RB lights were local.

You can have them, but you pay shipping. Seems like a fair deal to me :p. A thank you card would be nice too though ;Joyful I'm seriously not going to use them and would rather someone who can use them have them.

@JoshH you don’t have anywhere local where you could pick your own rock? Even if you got it live?

Nothing local that has the shelf rock in particular, only two retailers in all of Canada that I've found and they are both in Ontario. There are lots of regular Reef rock available locally and what I would call precured dry rock, live rock to me comes from the ocean.
