I love Zinsser Shellac Based Primer! It’s great for priming too!

Hahaha. Yeah, I won't use pine for finished pieces. It is too soft and I don't trust it. So, paint for the maple it is. Also, this piece will eventually support the weight of a jellyfish habitat on top of it, so it needs to be sturdy.

3/4” maple is definitely sturdy enough (overkill) for a jelly habitat.

Great product! Sprayed a lot of it for restoration jobs (house fires). Hence the fumes, jk. Not only did we have respirators but also fresh air supply...
