It did. It was Vibrio Vulnificus, and if I hadn't gone to the hospital as fast as I did, losing only my hand would have been a positive outcome. Scary s#!&.
I just googled it. Wow, that’s really scary stuff! Glad you are better and back home now.

Yeah, in his case, that would be palytoxin. Years ago, a guy on another forum almost killed his whole family by boiling rock that had palys on it.

Vibrio is in just about everyone's tank. It, like other bacteria need a point of entry. In my case, I had a puncture wound that hadn't fully healed. Less than 10 hours after exposure my hand was swollen, excruciatingly painful, and the infection was tracking up my arm. I had Cipro, Doxy, and Clindamycin on board via IV in less than 15 hours, post exposure, and it was still spreading. It releases endotoxins and becomes a "flesh eating" infection, leading to necrotizing fasciitis. Apparently, without prompt treatment, 1 in 3 people who get a wound infection from it die.

I am extremely lucky.

That never came up in my "dangers from the tank for infants" thread over the summer. Feels like it should have.

Glad you're doing better and got it in time, also had an ED team that listened to you when you said you have a reef tank.
Given the new found inspiration, I think I'm going to write an article on vibrionaceae once it is easier to type.

Right, imagine what you would end up with if you tried to voice-to-text a vibrionaceae article. "In this article we'll cover the use of gloves to avoid the fibonacci sequence in reefing"
