Okay Heathens.

I may have to go dark for a few days. During this morning's shenanigans, I've been in the ER at the VA. My entire left hand swelled over night and it would appear I have an aggressive infection

Can't at the moment. I'm currently in the emergency room being seen for a very aggressive infection in my left hand / arm. I woke up at 6 this morning in excruciating pain, and my index finger was swollen. It has since spread and my whole hand is swollen. Just got seen by ortho / hand surgery and had film done. They did a full set of labs to include cultures and I'm currently waiting on infectious diseases to come down. They're about to hang a cocktail of IV antibiotics. I May need surgery. Will definitely be admitted. ***

So you'll have to settle for my ugly mug.
Oh no!! Feel better soon!

What...nobody ??

hope all goes well styx !!
Thanks. Admitted and in my room. Had three different types of IV antibiotics. They'll be repeating them again soon. Hand surgeon came to see me. They'll be monitoring my response to the meds through the night and make the call in the morning.

They think that the infection was most likely caused by the aquarium, with the point of entry being through an old cut on my finger. They'll know for sure what it is when the cultures come back.

Adventures in reef keeping.

What the fork? I thought you were supposed to go blind if you did that too much. Not have your hand swell up. Get better soon :)

Shouldn't we have like a bracelet or card on us at all times so when we get wheeled to the hospital they can see that we own and maintain reef tanks? Maybe they should have a ward... nah, that's too much... :thinking-face:

Maybe I should start wearing gloves… I have some for the QT tank that are heavy duty
The ironic thing is that I almost always do.

No. I had an old puncture wound on my hand that hadn't fully healed yet. It provided an entry for bacteria.

I was going to guess Fireworm or Bristleworm with an allergic reaction.
Nah, been stung by anything and everything (multiple times) over the years and never had a really bad reaction. This is a whole new world of suck.
