I have a new plan for this piece - I’m going to allow him to grow out into his new home and as soon as he grows to maybe 2 times his current size I’ll slide him in half as the person I’m gifting a frag to (as a Thankyou for the help with a Regal Angel and several other things) has an 8’ tank and a small chonk of this guy will just vanish.

And a much needed FTS and TDS :D

She is getting large, not yet ready for the 4’ however I don’t think it’ll be too long till she decides it’s too small. I’ll likely mover her over when she shows signs of being uncomfortable but for now she’s behaving perfectly fine :)

Your smart! You could figure out a system where it’s barebottom at the front and sides, but behind some rocks in the back or caves there is enough sand. With some hardwork I’m sure you could do it ;)

Honestly, I’ve actually got an idea how this situation could work and seem pretty seamless.
Tomorrow morning I’ll draw an idea… Maybe I’ll incorporate it into my nano if I ever decide I give up on mostly sand.

Didn't want to hijack @Miami Reef 's build thread.

Drop off tanks work really well for this...? Sand in a small portion while the main tank is BB. Get a custom drop off with the sand in the back? My wrasses sleep in th corners behind rocks...

A couple updates of today, the clams and dragonet. The clams are loving life still, expanding and growing constantly and at a good rate. The dragonet is still fat as ever, constantly munching pods as expected. I have a feeling she’s also been eating pellets and food that has fallen to the ground. I cant believe she’s been in the tank a month now.

I love the blue clam! I keep looking for one but all the ones they seem to bring in local are just brown. Occasionally there's some green in the brown.

That’s my Maxima, it was wondered if he was a Squamosa hybrid but she seems to be a regular ‘super’ Maxima (I’d love a teal one but I just never see them so I went for this guy).

Hi. It’s been a good while since I popped in this thread.

Is the nano still random?
Yup!
It still is very random, I mean it’s now got LPS in it ;)

Here’s my most recent top down :)
BDBAD345-A844-4A0D-AE08-A3A336BF77AC.jpeg

The bright green plating coral is an Astreopora (I believe it could be a randalli) which is the LPS and Ill likely start just a wall of LPS/SPS and mix some in throughout the rockwork.

Last time I checked, these were the parameters.
0DB2FAF3-CF2A-4275-A7DE-E31D4A4AA0E1.jpeg

I don’t religiously test my parameters (Although I know I should). Generally when a coral does badly but my others are thriving I don’t really test and put it towards being that specific coral or species. I had my Tenuis frags die out a while ago and everything else thrived. I got a new tennis piece a few weeks ago and he’s not done badly since either.

Nice parameters! I don’t think I agree that over testing is always a good thing. People can overreact to the numbers. Your parameters look good!

If the corals look happy even if numbers look off, the coral is telling you it’s fine. Time to take action when numbers off and the corals don’t look happy

The coral just doesn’t like the tank ;)

I genuinely just put it down to the coral species not doing well and leave it a few weeks to a month or two until I try that species again.
