This is interesting- for wet use with a Dobie pad or similar? To pull off tough coralline?
Exactly! I made a holder for my mag cleaner that attaches to a drill. Makes cleaning/buffing quick and easy. (See video in post #3 of this thread, https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/long-time-acrylic-owners-cleaning-tips-wanted.793176/ .) As a rectangle, it tends to "walk" when the axis is not perpendicular to the glass. A circular footprint would be much more stable and produce less turbulence. I was thinking something along these lines, (red and blue are north and south poles of the magnets.)

TANK TALK: Reflect on your most significant reefing achievement or milestone. Whether it's successfully keeping a challenging coral or achieving a stable and thriving reef, share the moment that made you most proud as a reefer.
It would have to be successfully transitioning from fresh to salt way back when, pre internet.

I need to figure out something like this for curved acrylic. I have a 36" diameter cylinder tank that's getting ready for water, but I don't want to start it up as a reef tank until I have an easy and reliable cleaning plan in place. And that plan doesn't include hand scraping coralline and that green plaque algae that's even worse to get off.

TANK TALK: What’s the furthest you’ve travelled for a reef related experience or acquisition?

Farthest I've traveled is probably a 1 hour drive to a local Aquarium meet. I went there originally with the plan to start a freshwater Cichlids tank. After talking to some of the members there, I've decided to take the daring venture into reefs.

Great Barrier reef. Was super cool seeing giant clams as actual giants!

Man... No good stories here. The best I have to date is an hour drive across town to the best LFS around these parts. I live on the west side of the Phoenix Metro area and there is a LFS on the east side that has good, healthy livestock for very inexpensive. I have gone down there maybe 6 times over the last 3 months. It's an hour with no traffic - 2 if there's traffic.

Additionally, I've gone to the far west side of town to visit @Epic Aquaculture a couple of times and south of there in Goodyear was a guy that I used to buy fish from back around 2006-2008.

We have gone to the beaches in Mexico - Puerto Peñasco - and brought home some seashells, some of which may have made it into my tank.

Side note: in June next year my whole family has a Hawaii trip planned. Looking at the regulations, I may be able to legally bring some things home with me. I'm currently trying to get Hawaii's Fish and Game to confirm.

My proudest achievement is maintaining my first system for an entire year without nuking anything. This hobby can often seem like a daunting challenge, but I have found that just a little bit of discipline can keep things running smoothly.

Justin great story of your first sump attempt that held up for years on the family carpet. You have great parents.
Thanks :D They really put up with a lot of my crazy fish stuff those years. I'll have to gather up all these posts and send to them, I know my mom will probably have a few extras to add as well. Man that sump was janky.

For me it was probably the MACNA in Houston, I think 2005 or 06? My buddy and I road tripped it, but had to drive straight through on the way home as we decided to come home with a few (like 6  ) coolers full of corals. Technically the furthest was Hawaii, but that was just to surf and dive, not actually bringing anything home.

Hi I'm am older reefer with a basic reef setup that I would really like to upgrade, it's a 90 gal. mixed reef, fuge, leg lights and skimmer. Lids are super expensive, especially custom ones, and this would be a welcome addition to my tank. TIA

TANK TALK: Do you already own and use any Avast equipment? If so, what is your favorite and why? If not, is there anything at the top of your list?
I do not but I like the Avast Plank Feeder! I already have some Reef Jerky in my feeding arsenal.

Also, the Porthole is a pretty cool design. It would be a big help for photographing the tank inhabitants.
