You are old fashion - but I am the modern guy using preasured water to do the job - then it is a "iller" - running around in the pipes like a ferret :)

Sincerly Lasse
We visited Blue Planet(the quite new national aquarium) in Copenhagen a couple of years ago and they kept on talking about how a "gris"(=pig in English) were stuck inside their sea water intake. All of us just nodded and say "okay" without daring to ask if it was a real pig. Because non of us wanted to be a stupid Swede who didn't understand Danish :D
But after a while we kind of figured it out by ourselves.
Danish and Swedish are very similar, but the pronunciation differs a lot.

Do you mean like air in the pipes so it makes a certain noise and think it's a pig.

A pipe pig is basically a scrub brush that gets run through the pipe to clean it. When it rubs against a pipe wall it can squeal like a pig.

Like chimney brush, but with nylon Bristols? And flexible?

Yup. They can also have rubber edges to get the pipes really clean. Almost like a toilet bowl plunger. Lots of different designs.

Here we have one type to remove grease in restaurant drains. Hydro jetting. 3200 psi I think?

I am guessing that is the one that has a "self feeding" spinning Nozzle with 2 openings pointing backwards at about a 45° angle. Those 2 openings also angled about 15° off the same axis as the hose? (this provides the spinning motion)

Hooks up to your pressure washer handle and away you go.

Love those!

Ours at work is only about 12 meters long. Do they make them much longer?

We never got it stuck but we use it in an 8" diameter pipe about 4 meters long with 2 bends. Lots of clearance.

Sorry, can't easily convert cm in my head. A meter is very roughly a yard or 3 feet.

That´s an "iller" (ferret) I have been working with 25 m (82 ft) long "iller". and down to 50 mm (2 ") without sharp bends

Some other updates! I'm working this weekend, alone, so I need some human contact during the day. What could be better then R2R then? :)

The peppermint shrimp larvae still haven't settled. They are quite big now, about 10mm or more. And they hatched about five weeks ago. Still around 20 of them alive.
We got two buckets with newly hatched larvae but not as many as the first batch.

Next week we'll get some help building stands for the temporary tanks. I would like to get at least some smaller tanks running as soon as possible just to get it to mature. Then connect more and more tanks onto that system. Not sure yet how many temporary systems we will run. Not even sure how we should manage to fit everything into that room. It'll be a fun spring :)

Any good ideas on how to clean old coral skeleton before we reuse it in our calcium reactors?
No worries! No tank has crashed. Just some coral skeleton we've collected over the year from our tanks.

Good question on cleaning the coral. I'm guessing here, but maybe sodium hydroxide at. 11 pH. How long to clean your guess. the good thing of sodium hydroxide is if any residue won't affect system.
Yes, something like that I had in mind!
I think we got some somewhere at work. I'll check tomorrow. Thanks!

put enough calcium in bucket and with sodium hydroxide, leave in a bucket one or two days and agitate the coral when you can.

I fill a bucket with sodium hydroxide and dip my hands in it and rinse before making contact in display tank. I leave bucket with sodium hydroxide to the side , so when I need it. Again just to clean my hands before contact with corals.

Bleach cleans everything!

Speaking of dead corals.... do you feel there is positive value to trimming out the dead coral branchefrom under a colony when it dies from self shading? Are there drawbacks to doing it?
