"diaphragm" pumps may only be useful to a depth of 1 meter and does not give the flow that you need. If you want a high flow of air down to four meters - you need a compressor or what we call in Swedish "side channel blower".

Yes - I do know of the compressor but I do not think it is economical to use a compressor in order to run a couple of "mammut pumps" and this is very important

I know of experiences that a compressor with the flow that´s is needed and the demand of oil free air is not for free. Compressed air processes are very expensive to run, especially when there is a high purity requirements of the air and a demand of high flow.

Sincerely Lasse

I love it that I don't need to know everything. I've got @Lasse on the team!!
And some engineers and architects and stuff. :)

But we might need some sponsors too ... :D

I think Lasse's worth more than gold. Just me

To bad he's not 30 years younger, he'd set the world on fire. Just me

Good points, all of them. Thank you!
Still some time before we have to decide on these in-tank stuff, but I rather be well prepared when the deadline line is coming. I will take this with me when we start planning for circulation and rock works.

We've started doing this tank in wood, but scaled it down so it's like a 500 litre tank. Just to be able to try out different aqua scapes. Maybe we'll order a model in acrylic and try with water as well.

There has been a lot of meetings on all the large things outside the tanks, like sumps, room for skimmers and sand filters, mixing tanks, pipes to connect tanks in different rooms, RO tanks, and more pipes. So things like rock work, lights, calcium reactors, algae filters and a lot of the smaller stuff are still things we haven't decided completely yet. We have plans, but they might change due to budgets or architects ;Nailbiting
You’ve got the dream job!

I've got @Lasse on the team!!
I will likely never forget my first back and forth on here with @Lasse. It was on a post I wrote about grounding probes in aquaria. He challenged me in a way that was respectful and stimulating. He has gone on to completely reshape my understanding of cyano bacteria. He also has changed my opinion on the importance of quarantining. If I set up another system I doubt I will proactively treat anything and instead create a more natural system that can improve fish health and reduce parasite loading.

He is an incredible resource that I feel not enough people take advantage of.

You’ve got the dream job!
I don't think I can find a job I would like more :)
I'm really glad to be a part of the team building the new Aquarium.

So true, Lasse.
The picture of Mammut pump, it pushes air only?

No - mammut pump is something like this (a normal air driven under gravel filter is another example)

The pump I show in my last post is an air pump that produce a lot of air and if they are large enough - they manage to give air at 4 meters depth

Vätska = liquid
luft = air
tryckluft = compressed air

Sincerely Lasse

And guys - stop with the flattering - you get an old man to blush like a teenager on his first ball :)

Thank you

And @Brew12 you learn me something new in that discussion too (about grounding probes and electrical fields in salt water). However - I still not put it in the display :) And I use a grounded titan heater

Sincerely Lasse

Yes, I've seen some homemade small ones, I see. Thanks

Okey, since I'm not sure which drawings I'm allowed to post, I went back to my old drawings from PowerPoint :D

Here's the reef tank from above. The large window(ruta=window) is all the way down to the bottom, the small one is from the surface to 2 meter depth. The only area open to behind the scenes is the sump-side. The sump is down stairs, but here you see it anyway. Avrinningsbox=overflow.

And here's the final drawing from the architect, a side view of the sump and skimmers... ;)

The only area open to behind the scenes is the sump-side.
This is definitely challenging! Hopefully I can talk to my friend about it later today. Using a simplified engineering tool it looks like you can get 75,000 liters per minute using a 50hp pump assuming the discharge pipe is 3M above the suction pipe.
I'll need his help to figure out what that would be in velocity through the tank since it would require creating a gyre.

Definitely if my aquarium that size, pumps outside , the way to go. In future, Easier to service.

Lasse, any three phase electricity, going to be used at building?
I would be surprised if it didn't have 3 phase, 400V, 50 hz.

Then whatever pumps used electrical consumption should be reasonable. Then I wonder if stream, wavemakers, any pump like, that goes in tank are 3 phase?

@Brew12 , did you know in the 1920's appox, in USA, There was 2 phase.

Yup. The generators at Niagara Falls were 2 phase generators. I used to have a piece of the original transmission line.
