I am setting up a frag tank and was testing old pumps I had to verify they are still good.

Tested an old maxi jet 1200 and it was reading 6V when testing stray voltage. Tested another at 5V.

So then I grabbed a brand new one and it was reading 7V. Is it because I am testing in a 5G bucket and the motor itself spinning is throwing values?

I have always sworn by Maxi Jet pumps and assume this is simply from the motor in a small volume.

Interesting.
I wonder if as they age they spin slower and produce less static energy?

I have always hated the Maxijets, for like 40years I just didn’t like working around them and today perhaps you have explained why?

They do last a long time!. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, and I was surprised to see stray voltage even on a new one.

I put in a Jebao wavemaker that I was going to use and it’s 0, but is dc.

I used to love maxi jet and my oldest one lasted about 12 years. Unfortunately they are lousy quality nowadays.

Those voltage readings mean absolutely nothing without a current reference. You have no idea what you are reading or if it is accurate, but it likely induced voltage from the spinning impeller and magnetic field of the motor.
