today i pulled the return pump from my aio aquarium and stirred up a number of what looked like small white worms 3/8 in long, 1/8 in round but did not move. Captured most of them in a fine net and flushed. Suggestions on what they might be are welcome, and if not good, a solution to remove all of them.

Might be flatworms. Are they kind of flatish? A lot wrasses will eat them. Can you post a picture?
Here is a pic… mostly round and bright white before out of water… next to 3/4 in hose piece

Pictures. They are hard and mostly round and pure white in the water.

No movement. Hard. Some have a pointy end. So far only in aio return sump. Not a large number of them but I would guess I removed a couple dozen,
Well, that eliminates my other guesses. Any chance you could get clearer pics of one?
