I kept saying giggidy during the videos, so just enjoy these stills while I debate if editing down some short video into rated-PG is worth the time.

Plenty of mixed rock sizes. It all looks great. Excitement meter: 11

98lbs fit in one 32g brute and 15g salt water covers it with room for another 60lbs at least if I wanted/needed to. Smells like a wet suit that’s been wet for a few days, so not too bad all things considered. 5CE34F1D-70C0-4C8D-9681-F9903C77C1DE.jpeg B8A284DF-1B03-4117-866D-1DD6C9CC0E2C.jpeg 5114AAB4-968F-4F1F-B83B-18ED4A259B51.jpeg 96996743-4B14-4CF1-8083-5225FEC09D17.jpeg

I'm a huge believer in live rock to start a tank. Nice work!
I’ve only had success with live rock. I’ve never pulled my hair out more than dealing with absurd brown stringy carpety algae (the likes of which I’ve never seen before or since) in an old tank with dry rock. We didn’t know to wash it or cook it at the time. After two years and a disgusting tank I found some live rock to replace the phosphate etc leaching stuff. Never again will I go dry. I've kept other tanks successfully with live rock before that experience, so not messing with dry this time around. Walt’s stuff is fantastic and I get to sleep well knowing it’s legit from that operation and eco friendly.

Salifert nitrates test show 10ppm in the trash can, nitrite test shows up today. Could be a short cure cycle, the smell hasn’t worsened but we’ll let the rock tell us when it’s ready. Yes, SoCal guy talking to rocks, I promise I’m not TRYING to reinforce the stereotype! :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Here’s me unloading box one, no sound.

Happy Friday.

How does the Walt smith stack up against Tampa bay saltwater or KP aquatics wet Rock? I just got 10ths of the KP stuff, the cheaper “base” rock, and was impressed. Feather dusters, sponges, and a high salinity dip dent a tiny pistol shrimp and brittle star scurrying.

It says pest free but how is that accomplished?

I think it's been in the ocean, so you can't say pest-free. :grinning-face-with-smiling-eyes: Don't think anyone could!

Does it say the Walt Stuff is pest-free anywhere? I don't think I saw it but I've been wrong before. Re: hitchhikers etc. I've been letting it sit in the brute so the video is as much as I've seen of the rock at the minute.

Never had or seen TB or KP before. I've had good luck with Buna many many years ago, save for the vermetid snails.

Eager to see progress on this. Looks like we have the same tank going - it's on!
I did software sales for awhile (company was purchased by a mfg in Hyannis/Barnstable, not the longest drive for you), my joke was always I just learned you don't use a hammer with a screw. I think one of these 4x2xshallow builds will have more DIY content than the other . . . :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
cheers

It’s like he built a test stand and got some new equipment before he approved an invoice or something …

Flush tank/stand except 2 doors, flat walnut doors that’ll cover the length of the tank.

Water test before Halloween sounds like a tight wish it were so schedule, so let’s say “Updates with pics before US thanksgiving” and we can all be pleasantly surprised when that post hits anytime before.

Have a good week reefers.

It's on like donkey kong . . .

-COR15/1LINK module/DOS pumps/Probes
-Bubble King Double Cone 150 with RDX DC pump
-tank, 2-XR15 G6 Blue lights and arms, and stand, the latter is down to 33" tall from original 36".
oh yeah.png
It'

Things are in the right position more or less, a few furniture replacements and Thanksgiving should be a fun time. That test stand is an overshoot of actual, FWIW. So the real thing will be -4" L, -2" W and -3" H vs. these pics. Cheers.

My last return pump on a tank was a Mag9. The difference in sound and flow is … silly.
Not a fair comparison I know, it’s just like going awhile between cars, the latest one has all the new cool stuff!

yes that’s me giggling realizing I'm giving you the tour of our guest bathroom. :grinning-squinting-face:

Garage sump glamour shot with some equipment before it goes to the LFS for plumbing pre-assembly in a few weeks. 2x 200mm 120mm Noctua fans in the middle refugium section headed to the carpenter for stand exhaust.
