I’ve only had success with live rock. I’ve never pulled my hair out more than dealing with absurd brown stringy carpety algae (the likes of which I’ve never seen before or since) in an old tank with dry rock. We didn’t know to wash it or cook it at the time. After two years and a disgusting tank I found some live rock to replace the phosphate etc leaching stuff. Never again will I go dry. I've kept other tanks successfully with live rock before that experience, so not messing with dry this time around. Walt’s stuff is fantastic and I get to sleep well knowing it’s legit from that operation and eco friendly.I'm a huge believer in live rock to start a tank. Nice work!
Cheers from a Whitman College alum, love my adopted PNW. Stay cool.I'm a huge believer in live rock to start a tank. Nice work!
I think it's been in the ocean, so you can't say pest-free. Don't think anyone could! How does the Walt smith stack up against Tampa bay saltwater or KP aquatics wet Rock? I just got 10ths of the KP stuff, the cheaper “base” rock, and was impressed. Feather dusters, sponges, and a high salinity dip dent a tiny pistol shrimp and brittle star scurrying.
It says pest free but how is that accomplished?
I did software sales for awhile (company was purchased by a mfg in Hyannis/Barnstable, not the longest drive for you), my joke was always I just learned you don't use a hammer with a screw. I think one of these 4x2xshallow builds will have more DIY content than the other . . .Eager to see progress on this. Looks like we have the same tank going - it's on!
