Blue face tilefish (Hoplolatilus starcki) acquired for 3 weeks not eating. In QT tried mysis, live brine, reef frenzy, assorted pellets no response.

PVC QT environment. Not looking to add rock or sand. Quite a fat and big specimen do I just ignore this and hope he eats when I transfer to DT?

Finished treatment:

IME, these guys don’t do well with a sterile environment of QT. They do best when it’s just observation, quarantining these species’ for a potential disease without seeing signs can be hard on their overall health.

Before continuing with treatement, try getting him feeding again. Do you have a photo of him?

I agree. I have a 20 gallon observation tank with LR and sand running for 2 plus years. Tiles go straight into this for 2+ months. After eating well then they get prazi. Other fish go through QT tank then observation.

You have had this tile for 3 weeks. Does that mean you treated with copperpower and prazi at same time? That can be hard on the fish. Large water change, maybe with DT water, and see if he will eat.

How brave are your tilefish? I was expecting a shy fish but mine now nibbles my hand when I put it in the tank and will happily hand feed. Only cleaner wrasse have shown more bravery for me.

My previous fish, and the new guy have always been bold unless sick or being picked on.

This is my newest, Hoplolatilus marcosi, and he begs for food and pushes everyone but the lemonpeel angel out of the way. He eats from my hand, alongside all the different wrasses and butterflies without issue.

I hadn’t expected it but I’m glad they are so bold. I can’t believe how nonchalant it was about my hand today. I’ll try and get a video tomorrow.

I advise not unless it’s a 100G or larger.
I fixed 3 purple, 3 blue jaw, and 3 skunk in a 560G that has aggressive larger fish like tangs and angels. They did okay for a year or two before dying out. Then I tried a 80g species only tank with 1 purple, 1 skunk, 1 Oreni, and 1 flashing. Only the skunk and oreni survived but now living in separate tanks. They just don’t do well when you mix them up in smaller tanks or with other fish outside small reef fish like wrasses & anthias.

Hate that I just saw this I have 2 skunks and 2 purples being QT by my fish guy!

The tank is a tad over 100g it's a drop off.

Tank will be the 4 tiles and fairy wrasses

What's the life span on these guys? I owned a skunk a few years back before leaving the hobby for 5 months then broke the tank down

I think your hard scape doesn’t allow them to have caves to dwell in & feel secured. You probably want to reconsider how to do your hard scape.

Last one I made a large cave just for my tile Lil butt never used it preferred the ledges and back areas. We will find out!

Mine loved darker regions in the tank, caves, ledges, whatever they could claim they did and hung out in those areas a lot.
