does anyone here have experience of how many ml it takes to increase 1dkh/26 g?
(5300dkh) * x = (1dkh)*(98.5L)
x= 18.6mL

Coraline algae?Since I started dosing 50/50 sodium carbonate and hydroxide ive been getting this in my sump.
You need to spread out the dose more and have more flow around the dosing lines. If you also dose calcium chloride, you should space it about 20-30 minutes apart after the alk.Since I started dosing 50/50 sodium carbonate and hydroxide ive been getting this in my sump.

Increase the flow around the dosing lines and offset the doses. For example, alkalinity 8:00am Calcium 8:30am etcThis is the calcium chloride line. Ive never had a problem with it until I recently changed my ALK recipe so thought that might be effecting it.
I have the alk line up stream about 2 feet away at the beginning of my sump.
I use a DOS and it does a 3 ml dos of alk and 3.7 dos of cal about every ten minutes. These are about 2 minutes from each other.
Ill switch lines around so ALK is down stream and add more flow. Maybe put a wavemaker in there.
@Randy Holmes-FarleyI wanted to clarify if this would work…
For a 3 part solution Randy determined:
283g NaOH per gallon RO/DI
500g CaCl per gallon RO/DI
182g Balling Part C (or TM reef mineral salt) per gallon RO/DI
Per tropic Marin, “
Reef Mineral Salt can be combined in one solution with Calcium or Magnesium.
Solution of Reef Mineral Salt should be dosed with the same liquid-amounts as solutions of Calcium and KH Buffer.”
Could this be combined into the following 2 part solution?
283g NaOH per gallon RO/DI
500g CaCl + 182g tropic Marin reef mineral salt per gallon RO/DI
I had to do this in my sump also. I added a small, cheap powerhead pointing directly at where my lines drip into the sump and it helped with precipitate in my sump.Maybe put a wavemaker in there.

Apologies, I mixed up the brand name. Aquaforest states this about their Reef Mineral Salt, which is made to replace Tropic Marin part C. I edited my post.Where did Tropic Marin state this?

Thank you Randy, I will just keep them seperate. Is it too concentrated of a solution to dissolve the part C when compared to the CaCl2 of AF?No, Tropic Marin Balling Part C and AF mineral salt are unlikely to be able to be combined into either part.
Calcium sulfate will precipitate from the calcium part and magnesium hydroxide from the alk part.

Sorry for the confusion. I was just curious why it would be OK to dissolve part C in the CaCl2 mix from AF, but not your recipe. I'm assuming it's due to the higher concentration in yours, as that is the only difference between the two calcium components.I'm not sure what you are asking. Do you mean can you devise it to be 1:1:1 dosing? Yes, I believe so.

Interesting, thanks for the thread!I don't believe it is OK for either. Try it and see.
This thread shows it does not work with AF mineral salt:
balling method with 2 part DIY
Evening, I am using randy's 2 part DIY recipe along with Aquaforest Reef mineral salt (Nacl free salt) to maintain ionic balance. aquaforest states to mix it with either calcium or magnesium but not both. wouldn't it make sense to mix it with both solutions instead? I think I'm using relatively...www.reef2reef.com
Hi @Randy Holmes-Farley,
Please help me with the calculations...
If I dilute a solution of Sodium bicarbonate 84.5 grams per 1,0 liter. And I would like to switch to another reagent, to Sodium Hydroxide, but to keep the solution concentration the same.
This is to avoid reconfiguring the dosing program for sodium bicarbonate. It is easier to dilute the solution with the correct grams)
I once tried to determine the mass fraction of these reagents:
Sodium bicarbonate = 27.3666
Sodium hydroxide = 57.4786
Then I came to the conclusion that Sodium hydroxide needs 40.2 grams per 1.0 liter to match the concentration of Sodium bicarbonate at 84.5 grams per 1,0 liter.
But I'm not sure if it's right, maybe I need to add other numbers...
Thank you very much!Yes, that is correct. 84.5 grams of sodium bicarbonate is matched in potency by 40/84 (the ratio of the molecular weights of the two chemicals ) times 84.5 g = 40.2 g sodium hydroxide.
