Umm search on here, Randy had a nice write up. X grams of baking soda ends up being X grams of sodium carbonate. You lose mass. Mix in 1/2 gallon of RODI, then top off with RODI to make 1 gallon . Also you can't overbake it.

Well, if your alk is 8 and you want to go to 9 you'd need 2.42 tsp of dry Sodium Bicarbonate or 1.56 tsp of dry Soda Ash... Then you math.

How much does everyone increase their dosing on alk when they get new acros in? 1ml per acro frag, 2ml per, 3ml per etc. Just seeing if anyone has any idea. I know nothing is going to be the same in everyones tank, just seeing if they're any ballpark figures out there.

I don’t do anything. Just test and if alk drops I add more. I wouldn’t do anything preemptively

It's also 381 grams of brs soda ash per gallon but if ypu bake the 500 something grams of bicarbonate you get 297ish and use that. I guess it's just completely dry when baked vs brs soda ash

Oh... Tip to anyone putting together a new tank.

I still don't know how or why, never happened before, but tonight I shut off my return and had a very minor sump overflow.

I coated the inside bottom of my stand with that Flex Seal, it worked perfectly. Shop vac and sucked up maybe 1/4 gallon of water.

Now to figure out why it overflowed.....

Problem solved, the weir on my overflow had some algae, causing the DT to be a bit more filled. It was just enough my sump couldn't hold it all when I turn off the return. Cleaned it and my sump level raised.

I haven't had to scrape or clean my glass in forever and that used to be part of the routine.

I've been using esv from the beginning. If I switched to baking soda ( bisodium carbonate), do you know how much to bake to mix in 1 gal. I would have to test dose and test until I find the amount I need to dose to maintain my alk. I'm debating whether it's worth it
