My reef crystals always mixes up high on calcium. 470-490 still okay? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it below about 470.
That's high, but fine. It will precipitate out if it is too high, but I do think corals get irritated if it is well above 500 and more than anything it will change magnesium levels and alk consumption. That is really why you want certain numbers, any of the three elevate and it is like scales balancing and can either tax another element or cause it to not be able to be consumed properly.

Reload, we still have answers! Sometimes they even match!
Okay one more and then I’m done. You asked for it. I have this 5 headed hammer that looked great for the first 2 months after I got it. All 5 heads have been looking pretty sad for probably 3-4 weeks. Short stringy tentacles. I’m thinking it’s getting too much par but don’t really want to move it unless I have to. It’s probably getting about 250 par now slowly acclimated up from about 150. I also took my whites down from 30 to 10 percent right around the time it started going downhill but don’t think that would make a difference. Was hoping it would eventually start coming back. No pests on it. Medium flow. Think that’s what it is and it will eventually acclimate? Frogspawn in the same par is thriving.

Sounds good to me. I use the following:

Salinity - refractometer
Alk - Hanna
Nitrates - Hanna
Phosphates - Hanna
Magnesium - aquaforest
Calcium - Salifert
PH - Hanna

I really like the Aquaforest one. I think I'm going to get that for calcium and mag going forward.
I may give the aquaforest tests a shot too, just want to double check my saliferts.

Wait till you pick up a frag and forget about them, creepy feelings...lol
Haha I picked up an acro frag to give it's base a little scrubbing and almost jumped since there was a huge micro brittle star just chilling at it's base. Gave me a scare, normally they just chill in the rocks and not on a frag rack and it's the biggest micro star I've seen. Thought it was a tiny octopus.

Up your mag. Hammers love magnesium. Do you feed them?

Okay haven’t dosed anything before, been waiting for a need. Anyone want to give me a tip or two on what I should use and can I dose by hand for now or is time to get a dosing pump?

Hand is fine, your tank is small enough. I dose mag every four days since All for Reef is lower on it. Just add 5ml every 3-4 days and I'm good, I'd assume your are similar, but it depends on your stocking.

Dude, I have the same problem. Sound like my Amazon "aquarium safe" magnets might be the problem. Gonna have to remove them from my diy frag rocks and find some other way to attach them yo my back glass.

Just one possibility. Mine was showing visible rust.

Has anybody tried the in tank dosage of hydrogen peroxide at 1ml per 10 gallons for nuseince algae I just did like 3 hours of reading and many people who tried it say its 100% reef safe and kills alage. Other people who have not tried it said they would never do it as it would kill coral.
