Best way around that is just put a proxy bid in for what you're willing to pay right off the bat. If nobody ends up going higher then you win and it doesn't automatically go up to what you put the proxy at if they dont....so you may even get it cheaper

i don't like relying on proxy bids. and what i'm willing to pay might change. back in the day, did a lot of facebook auctions, no proxy available.
