Watched my dang gold rim tang pull at least 9 tentacles off of my elegance today. Going to try to net his butt tmrw. Buddies getting evicted. I love how clean tangs keep my tank, and watching them swim but god dang they all eat coral. Even the little hippo tang after i traded out the big hippo tang pecked 3 millis right in front of me.

I’ve definitely found that fish will eat some decidedly not on the usual menu items. Biggest oddity for me was early last year I had to evict 2 yellowtail damsels that had developed a taste for Acro polyps. At first I thought it was just one. But after moving him into the refugium I had at the time, saw the other start doing it. Weird.

Its going to be a real project to get him. I used to be able to bait tangs into the trap with the nori, but i dont think i can fit a trap in my tank anymore.

Rant for the day... I bought 3 kessils and a light fixture from the classifieds. Agreed on price shipped and paid for it. Now the seller is backtracking saying it's going to cost $260 to ship and if he can't find it cheaper he will just refund me and sell it locally.

Kinda irritating when someone says they will do something and then backtracks because they didn't do their own research prior to selling something
Well some good news/bad news. Thinking it was too expensive I just told the guy to refund me.

I bought some other lights in the meantime and he was able to find cheaper shipping and shipped the Kessil/t5’s :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Guess I’ll just resale some lights now

Well I don’t have the little buggers anymore and I’m able to keep Acros alive and even pretty happy these days.

I was gifted a hippo tang from a friend one time. It was about the size of a quarter when he got it. Grew to around 3" - 4" and never had an issue with it picking at corals. Within an hour of rehoming in my tank, was biting and nipping every LPS I had.
Tried everything to trap/get him out for weeks and wasn't planning on pulling all the coral and live rock out. Ended up going fishing :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: Got a really small fishing hook and caught him in about 15 minutes. It was a good day:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

For a ba s ta r d damsel (that was actually a very smart fish). First starter fish in my tank... I made an under substrate spear out of a stainless bike brake cable and acrylic block. That Da m n fish would taunt me, I swear!
Had a cave he liked hiding in, so set the block with the sharpened cable through it, under the substrate in front of his cave. Had to stand off to the side of the aquarium so he couldn't see me (only way he would show his face, if he couldn't see me), ready to push the cable/spear when he peeked out. I speared right through the center side of his body. Pulled him out with the spear. Threw him in the fudge. The hole healed in about a month. Gave him to a buddy with full disclosure. Fish lived for another 5 years :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Thats gnarly AF, kinda want to see this contraption now.

I have the little ballyhoo gold hooks for catching ballyhoo offshore. It may get to that point. My last blue hippo was brazen, i moved the nori clip up and just scooped eeem with the net. Only time ive ever been successful netting a fish out.

The fish trap has been perfect and gotten 3 or 4 tangs that were either not a good fit or outgrew my tank, but with the added coral and rock i dont think itll fit.

I stood over the tank for 40min after work but i either have to get lucky on lunch break or immediately after work because the LFS closes. This guys super skiddish. Maybe the bassrod and a hook, of course as per the usual - ill end up catching everyfish, but him.

Elegance does not look good. Maybe this guys been nipping my torches to, would explain alot.
