Questions everyone. Many of you dose phyto. These are live foods right that looks green? How long can you keep them alive in the fridge? It doesn't look cheap to dose on a regular basis, and I live like an hr from the closest lfs that sells it.
Thanks. Considering it for my 65. A bottle won't last long and since it's live food, it need overnight shippingWe dose phytoplankton. A few on here do also. You can get it at places like algaebarn (although I've had shipping issues lately) also Dinkins. They're both vendors on here.
I used to get one bottle from algaebarn and it would last us a week or two doing 30-60ml a day. Lately we've just been getting from a local supplier for pods and phytoplankton.
I dose phyto. It will stay alive in the fridge for 3 months or so as long as it’s disturbed daily. I was talking to Dinkins about this the other day. I actually have a half gallon in my fridge right now and it’s going to take me a long time to go through. I had a small bottle before and it took a month to use and it was still fine after a month so that’s the longest I’ve kept one so far but Dinkins said as long as it gets lightly shaken/disturbed daily it should last 3 months or so. It should have a grassy/vegetable smell to it. If it starts to smell like rotten eggs, you know it’s time to toss it.Questions everyone. Many of you dose phyto. Keep it in the fridge and make sure you turn it over a few times once every day or so to mix it up. I used to dose it and stopped and there were no ill effects...Still have plenty of pods and My glass stays cleaner. Is this where you get you supply
I'll check that out. Why did you stop dosing?Eldredge in marketplace has the best phyto IMO and cheaper if you go the phyto route. Phyto Doesn't need to be overnight delivered either

I dose phyto and pods. mostly use phyto to raise pods and whatever I have the pods in phyto wise will go into tank. All is set up in basement with grow lights.Questions everyone. I'm not going to have time to culture live stuff. I have my hands full with my 2 tanks, my plants, and 2 girls. Plus, hubby would not go for setting it up.I dose phyto and pods. mostly use phyto to raise pods and whatever I have the pods in phyto wise will go into tank. I almost have the copepods running perpertually after 2 months . algae growth keeps up with what they are feeding on. And as far as the phyto if i dont want to touch it for a month, I dont and it is fine because it is suspended and doesnt go bad that way. Sometimes will have to restart phyto due to contaminates / my own stupidity or added to much or to little special fertilizer to it.I'm not going to have time to culture live stuff. It's SO easy to grow phyto though, it probably takes more time to order it and deal with shipping than to just grow it yourself. Get a gallon mason jar, add poly bags to it and fill it with fresh salt water, shine a cheap Amazon grow light on it, add f/2 fertilizer and pull out the bag when it's dark green. Add to jars in the fridge, add a new bag, seed new water with a bit of old colony. Once you have it running it's like 5 minutes of effort to do a week for more phyto than you could possibly use. Unbelievable how expensive that stuff is for how easy it is to grow.I'm not going to have time to culture live stuff. I have my hands full with my 2 tanks, my plants, and 2 girls. For me it was a waste of moneyI'll check that out. Why did you stop dosing?

That being said I thinks it's a waste unless you are using it to cultivate pods (which is also pretty easy)
