72x18x21 are dimensions. Length x width x height. The refer to the 18" as depth..front to back. Its just not enough. If your going 6 feet go 180 for the 24" front to back. If you just want the 125 gallons go for a 48x24x25. Especially if there are internal overflows on the 125 you lose basically a foot and a half in length. You can aquascape much better in at least 24" front to back...18" is tight.

I definitely feel the space lost from one overflow in our 90. It's why I'm hoping to upgrade to a 150. But needing to stay at 48" so will look at 30" front to back and 24" depth still

Lol...front to back is referred to as depth in the aquarium world for whatever reason. Height is referred to as tall. Left to right is length/width.

If you can get a 125 and drill it for a "ghost" overflow it's not so bad...but I'll never go 18" again. It's OK at first..then you regret it later..but my tank was free.

My first tank back in 2006. It was a 125 gal 72x18x21 With two big internal overflows. Pretty crowded in there. Lol! I had no idea what I was doing back then.

2 inches, and they wander maybe once every two weeks. Only one does that, the other one (since it split) doesn't move.

I have a 125g glass tank now. Upgrading it to a 220g... because weight is a concern for me... I opted acrylic. It's way lighter. A glass cages with the euro bracing etc and like 3/4" glass 72" x 24" was around 600lbs. Acrylic is at like 200 so saving me 400lbs. I'm placing in front of a load bearing wall, but running parallel joists.

Acrylic is a good choice in a larger tank in my opinion. I went acrylic when I got the 90 for the living room. Probably do it again for the reef if I went largercsomeday. Half the weight, probably the only reason I got away without issue on a third floor.
