@steveschuerger
Alk 8ish-8.4ish
Mag 1400-1500
Cal 420-450ish
P04 .08ish-.12ish
N03 14-20
Potassium 400ish-440ish varies a bit

Alk consumption is the biggest moving part for me. When it's dialed in I'm at a steady number and leave it there. When adding 20-30 acros demand goes up immediately...then stalls pretty quick..then needs to be readjusted as demand goes up because they have settled in. For me..it takes about a month or so to get alk dialed in right after I get an order...hence the constant testing.
And the orders come about once a month so it’s a never ending cycle.

Well I think I might go back to carbon/gfo on my caddies. At least one of the two. My nutrient levels definitely went wonky, no surprise considering all the adds. Now I’ve got a bunch of algae. Have a couple small urchins and a couple turbo snails Coming from ReefCleaners tomorrow . Corals themselves are pretty happy at least. Started using Microbacter Clean as well.

For $5000 you can get a tank, stand, controller, pumps, live rock, fish. Then spend the rest on corals because that's all you need. Or you can spend the rest on reactors, scrubbers, skimmers so you can overfeed and remove all the extrees as a result of overfeeding
Do you run any mechanical filtration?

I think elbow grease is true. I know we all know @billyocean is the SBB hype man, but there are quite a few of us finding success. That is what I love about the group is bouncing ideas and finding what works for some and maybe not others.

Just don't want to put too much pressure on Ryan and there are others that are veritable knowledge books on this too in this core group.

Which leads me to my next question, how long have you all been doing this? Ryan went from zoas to acros but I don't even know when you started reefing, I think @wes84 and I are about the same as my tank got wet oct 2021. Statelinereefers seems like an OG and Steve has tons of fresh and salt tanks.
I am far from a master at it..that's why I work so hard at it. Ya'll think I'm playing when I say I forrest gump my way through it. I read/research like crazy and try to make sense of what's working for people here and there and try to apply it. Started in 2016/17 with a 29 gallon nanocube. I didn't know jack and killed a bunch of things with pure laziness and or not putting in the work. I would reboot and repeat the process. A friend Gave me the 125. Started that and did the same thing with that for the first year. Made some life goals and fundamental changes and applied myself fully into the commitments of life. The beginning of last year I got serious about logging data, maintaining and taking reefing seriously to see how much more I could achieve by doing so. So short story long, I've been reefing for 5 or 6 years but in reality probably only about a year and a half or so.

@Not woodyarmadillo
The secret to success..run carbon for 3 days in one of these once every month or so

I used to run GAC in a successful SPS tank years ago. Sometimes I’ll run passively in a high flow area in my sump but haven’t in a long time. Why do you? Just to remove any possible toxins? Clear the water?

I run an open top so just in case anything from the house might build up. Who knows with cleaners or whatever in the air over the course of a few weeks or so. In the end..it just makes me feel better..lol
