1)Purchase some live phyto somewhere. Doesn't matter, small amount is enough.
2) purchase air pump... larger one with 4 to 6 nozzles would be better
3) purchase F2 fertilizer... most places you buy phyto from should also be able to sell you some fertilizer
4) make some salt water mix. Instant ocean recommended since it's cheaper in the long run, don't need expensive high end salt. Any at hand would do.
5) get some containers. I use 2L soda bottles, clear. Remove the labels. Glass etc works too.
6) I fill 3 soda containers with salt water at a time. Add some phyto to each one, enough that they have a green tint. Add 1ml F2 fertilizer. Add air line... no stone needed.
7) Add light from a cheap light fixture. One on a timer outlet works, set up to 16 hours on time. Cheap led bulb works best for no heat and low power consumption imo.

8) harvest phyto when water is dark green. Maybe 1x per week per container. Take some one of the 2l bottle, refill with clean salt water and add more f2 fertilizer for next batch. If you stagger the harvest of each container you can harvest daily etc depending on needs. Can keep in fridge if a container that closes too.

Note* when the 2l bottles get too dirty I just throw it away and replace with a new one for light to shine through

That is essentially my plan. From what I understand one strain of phyto will win out but I’m sure that’s good enough.

Yes... im pretty sure I gave you the same recipe lol

One strain will out compete others... if you really want different strains you have to culture them in seperate containers. Most people that sell a mix will mix them together onto one container prior to shipping. Same with pods. I have a 5g bucket with tiger pods next to these phyto bottles. Only needs air bubbler, not even light. Feed them the phyto and it's a self sustained colony.

Alkalinity raises and lowers with the nitrate levels in your tank. As nitrate is produced in the tank alkalinity lowers and as nitrate is converted to nitrogen gas alkalinity increases.
Its usually only is a factor to people who have to dose large amounts of nitrate because they’re only getting one half of the equation.

Keep your hanna alkalinity regent in the fridge and shake before each use...doesn't go bad. If you leave it out of the fridge it will slowly give off readings

Man! Nice! Congrats amigo. I guess it doesn't matter how close to Loyola you are now.
Thanks. I had help from the dude at the store. And it came after the garden store where we had another large haul.

I didn't buy one when you were gone! I waited and waited for you to get home. Greg and Marshall both have one and Sam has 2!
And Marshall doesn't even have kids to teach technology to!
