As an add on, I check in every morning and see where things are. So good observation skills are really helpful.

I keep finding critters I didn’t know I had. Saw this crab yesterday just nibbling detritus. I think it’s a small spider/decorator type.

I agree I sometimes question if I’m a successful reefer. I have corals that will do great for a long time then all of the sudden die on me. It’s ironic that I have more success with SPS than I do the easy corals.
If I had to pick anything I’d say that I’ve joined the phyto dosing bandwagon. I can say that I’ve seen a noticeable improvement in my tank since dosing phyto.
very good to know. i wish we could afford to dose phyto but at this point it would be tough with out culturing it myself.

i think you should give yourself more credit!
I'm successful for the most part, but I also understand I don't often do it right. I have plenty of room for growth - haven't yet "arrived".

Phyto is good for sure! It feeds most corals and filter feeders as well as feeding the pods and rotifers which then feed the fish and most corals.

trust me i have been learning all the time with this stuff and if a prerequisite to considering yourself Arrived is perfection and not having room to grow then no one will be successful. This stuff is tricky and even the best hit speed bumps. dont knock yourself because you arnt achieving perfection 100% off the time

True story. I don't think any of us ever arrive. Once we've got everything running smooth and gorgeous something comes up. Vacation, family trouble, R/O failure, bad batch of salt or chemicals...

Ok, I can’t believe this is still available. If I wasn’t so bad with blastos I’d probably grab ’em

I'm still trying to see what the new tank likes, what it tolerates, and what it hates.
