Off topic, as I stated in my original thread. Today Mark's 5 months unemployed. But I did get a proud moment when i checked in on a project my former team built in our Lab. It launched on a delta heavy at ULR @ the cape in Florida back in August. My handwriting is currently orbitting venus and the sun at over 100k miles / per hour.
The side facing the sun gets to 700°f,
The rear faces around -400°f
temperatures.
Our hardware operates nominally at 79° (sound familiar?) And the vehicle is only 16ft or so across. Our hardware sits fat and happy right in the middle. We engineered, designed, test, and built about 70% of the entire project, including the heating and cooling systems for both sides (front cooling and rear heating) as well as the temp control for the solar panels.

Thought I would share cuz even tho I'm on layoff from the union, I could be called back at any time. Truely the most amazing and humbling career opportunity I have ever seen.

They will eventually crash the orbiter vehicle into the sun for last-ditch scientific data taken before it melts into the sun. They did the same thing with Cassini, and Saturn years ago.

Pretty cool knowing I touched the first thing man has ever sent to crash into our star. Too bad it's in the past. But incredibly fortunate to contribute and be in the mix of such things. Space exploration has fascinated me since I was a boy. It never died.

That’s so cool.. I’m a NASA baby, my dad was a communications specialist for the early Mercury and Gemini programs from the late 50’s and worked with them up until the 69 Apollo moon launch. I was so fortunate to have a window into such a amazing journey, he once took me to NIH to watch the monkeys being trained to go into space and I remember being able to take a small mission flown antenna that was mounted on one of the Gemini rockets to school for show and tell when I was a kid :)

Very cool, thanks for sharing. We had done the life support systems and basically the entire space suit, all 7 layers, since the 60's. We did the heating and cooling systems in the suit itself, the backpack and all its components, and the control DCM on the chest where the astronauts control the suit and monitor levels, etc.. was very rewarding for sure.

@Fudsey and I forgot the khakis. Great to meet u Keith and thanks a huuuuche for saving me a pile of money on this. Practically drove to my house and I happily traded off for the icp test.

Is the tank wet yet????? ;)
Haha. Nah, had to fly down to see a friend to pick out a shaped, dry-live rock piece for the MacroAlgae Fuge. And price out livestock through them.

I gotta drain the whole thing Saturday and transfer fish to the 29g I am ready to get running. I'll throw the canister from the 125 on it and the remora hotb skimmer, some seachem stability... and then rock and roll. The canister is an Aqueon 400 rated at 150gal max. Lightly stocked. So it's over kill for the 29, and already cycled media packed to the rim on the inside. Should be fine with the 8 fish I have.

Gonna try to leave an inch of water and the sand bed to save what I can for creepy crawlies and bacteria. Try to avoid any decay-originated spikes once it's all set back up and running.

I plan to refill the tank with 50/50 old water and new fresh turbo fritz. Will be interesting to see test results before, and then the same day after I increase my total water volume to see how dilution effects parameters in real time.

That will all happen without fish . They are staying in the 29g for about 3 days while I get everything tuned in.
