Try vaseline 1st. I used some teflon gel I got with my glasshole overflow I had on my 90G. Thin coat on the gaskets
I should get a badge for not typing the things that went thru my mind and kept the thread family friendly lol

Yeah, hard to be family friendly sometimes. Don’t be a glasshole. ;Hilarious

That sucks

Yea, but I expected to run into mistakes and hind-sight stuff. 1st time trying this, and I didnt choose an easy goal. Just another lesson learned the hard way, which I dont mind at all. Not the 1st time it's happened to me, and guaranteed wont be the last. I take it all in stride as I progress in the hobby.

Family friendly. Haha. Struggle is real to keep it clean here.

I like the thought, but I cant help but think if I'm gonna have it all apart regardless, I might as well silicone it for a piece of mind long term. Meh.

Gasket isnt the issue. Another "lack of experience mistake" by yours truely...

The union for the emergency drain where the red arrow is is wider than the overflow box. So its pushing against the glass as I tighten the bulkhead locknut, and not allowing for a flush mate between the glass and rear box. And it was warping the box itself slightly due to the pressure and gap.

I should have plumbed the union below.. what's weird is that the other side is fine. And the unions on those 2 drains are in the same spot (give or take 1/2")

Due to the original sin which was my mistake of plumbing the overflow drains in reverse for my particular set up, I cant move the union down without a complete rebuild of the line. :(

So I'm gonna drop the union out completely and use couplings to patch the gap left by the union I remove.

More work.

What about a piece of .250 acrylic, drilled to the correct size with an extra set of gaskets to space the box away from the glass?

I did the same mistake when plumbing my 90.... live and learn;)

Ugh

Thanks for dropping by the build stan. Appreciate the idea. Never thought of that.

The issue is that the drain pipe coming out is not paralleling the glass. The return line goes flush against the wall on it's way to the skimmer chamber. It is so tight its pushing the bottom of that 1st 90° into the glass and the union is touching. It's actually the drain pipe on the wall that's the root cause.

Dont worry. I have an idea. Hold my beer. It's time to hillbilly this summmmbi$h

The arrow on top shows the gap between the wall and the pipe.

The arrow below shows the same piece flush. The tank is coming out, 1/2" on the flush side.

20190401_154008.jpg

Draining 40gallons, and jacking the stand up with a 4x4 just enough to slide it 1/2" away from the wall.

That should release the pressure on the drain pipe and the box will lay flush in the end. Time to strap on some boots and stick a hay straw in my mouth and ...

Best of luck. Hopefully taking the tension off of it will solve the problem.

Thanks sir.

Good luck sliding 800 lbs plus would scare the bleep outta me. You got nerves of steel

Nerves is the family version of what I have that are huge.

As well as huge empty space between my ears for trying this. Ready to go in a bit.
